I used old wooden cotton reels with 4 small nails hammered into them too!

I remember making yards of the stuff as a kid, but never knowing what to do with it afterwards!!!!!!

Any other uses for this other than tea cosies or blanket edging? Could you make lots of lengths (same length or 2nd, 4th, 6th slightly shorter etc) in different colours and make a rug?

what could we use instead of a cotton reel? am thinking this might be a good activity for ds's next week (halfterm) if we have the horrible wet weather we are having this week... I could do with a tea cosy or some coasters ;)

I used to use an old hair grip to hook the wool over the pins when I did French knitting on an old cotton reel with four small nails hammered in. You had to loop the wool backwards round each pin in the first row rather than just winding it round the outside of the pins and that was the fiddly bit.

Useless stuff as I recall. Though you could use it as braid to decorate a jacket but these days making Icord is easier

It doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!
