i know this is OT, but i was wondering this whilst reading this thread, did any of you feel upset seeing your car scrapped?

i was imagining me taking my car to be scrapped (i dont have any intention of this, dont even know why i read this thread), and felt that i would probably get upset!

    am i just being ridiculous?

I traded a car in under the scrappage scheme a couple of years ago. I'd had about 7 years and it had been a good car but I wasn't upset.

i think i'll cry when mine goes
  • I tried the suggestion above of rewardingrecycling.co.uk after having some trouble a while ago with the others mentioned above, (didn't get the service I expected), and got nearly £150 for a 12 year old fiesta, picked up from home as well!!!!

Was a little sad to see the old girl go, no tears though, but more exciting is the new one to look forward too...

    OP You should read this...

What to do if your vehicle is scrapped or written off

    Edited for accuracy.

The important part in the above link is this ...

"Telling DVLA you no longer have the vehicleIf you’re not given a CoD or your vehicle is not being destroyed, then you should complete the V5C/3 ‘Notification of sale or transfer’ section of your vehicle registration certificate (V5C), and send it to DVLA, Swansea, SA99 1BD.
You should get a letter confirming that you’re no longer responsible for the vehicle. If you don’t get this letter within four weeks, phone 0300 790 6802 for further advice. Text phone users can phone 0300 123 1279."

DVLA seem to be very good at loosing stuff sent to them through the post  so either send as 'Signed for' or take note of above to avoid £80 penalty [might be more now - dunno]
Learn to laugh at yourself ... everyone else has:rotfl:

I've had my car since 2000, it's been brilliant, reliable, had to replace the battery a couple of times and a starter motor, but it always gave me warning...including last week when it started belching out white smoke on the way to work. Got me back home again that afternoon and hasn't moved since (everything points to cylinder head gasket) I'm dreading seeing it go (but tax runs out next week)

My OH cried when her 'trusty' old Rover 400 was towed away - I cried when she replaced it .......... with a Rover 45 :rotfl:

Anyway OP, +1 for cartakeback.com - good service, paperwork sorted and signed on the day and cert of destruction emailed within 48 hours
  • Just had a scrappie collect our old Volvo along with a load of scrap. Sent docs to DVLA so hope I'm not one of the ones they loose.

  • I would like a bit of free advertising.

Apparently the correct way to get it is...

    1) Register on a forum and post a very specific query (Post 1)

    2) Register again, under a different name, and promote my own half assed company (Post 8)

    3) If real forum members get in the way of my plan (Posts 2 to 7) Register AGAIN (Post 15)

I got a quote from Rewardrecycling it was £174 to pick up...however payment was courtesy of a pre-loaded mastercard, which seemed a bit bizarre. Ended up going with cartakeback (170), got a cheque and cried buckets as it was leaving the street on the back of the pickup truck...
