If they don't fix it [ for standard PC users / classic interface ?] and carry on with the touch screen Android [ish] for 10 years olds approach - it will become a~n~other WinVista non seller
I fear however too much ackkers thrown in this basket already, so maybe they will look for the new slice of the touch~screen market and leave the rest of us on the current O/S.
My view Win8 is Win7 with knobs on, but not the kind of knobs I like or will ever use .. .. yeh I know I'm oldDisclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. I'm of the same opinion as you. Metro (the new interface) reminds me of one of those old green felt noticeboards from school. I tried to switch it off but there wasn't an option and I had to eventually change a setting in the registry to get rid of it. I hope Microsoft add an option to disable it before the final release.
I can't see the corporate market taking to well to Metro and home users will be stuck with it unless they can figure out how to disable it. So far it's a Per User registry change too, OK for domains as it's a simple enough change to create an Active Directory policy to disable it.
I'm having trouble figuring out who Metro is aimed at. It certainly doesn't help any on a Desktop PC or laptop, it doesn't look organised enough for a tablet and seems to cumbersome for phones. I'll be watching this one quite closely through the stages until it's release.0 -

Disable
You can get the ' toggler ' here. Unlike those systems its trying to look like, WinBliows is, and will only ever be a DOS system with a GUi, and as long as that is the case the registry is a ' primary school level ' open book to those who understand it.Disclaimer : Everything I write on this forum is my opinion. Looks to me like this is cursed with the Ghost of Bill Gates (affectionately know as Vista). lol That Start menu button is going to be a nightmare. Everybody is so used to seeing the programmes menu, and not flicking between screens like ALT TAB.Yellowlawn

My vote is with whatshisname """ Microsoft is headed toward another Vista-sized fiasco.""
Microsoft originally intended Vista [ and all applications controlled by the gates gang ] to be developed for ' cloud ' - and here we are with a mark II version of apple~eske Vista selling apps & games from the Win8 Store.
Its a money making marketing exercise fixing a problem that does not exist for the user.
MY bet is :
- A for effort but no cigarWinXP is still widely used by millions, as is the cretinously crippled Vista. Win7 is everything that Vista could have been if they had not tried to force cloud down peoples throats ! .. .. .. and here we go again a~n~other try at flogging an interface for a product they don't manufacture and can't control - sad effort
doomed to failure.
