Got both 32bit and 64bit in about 15 minutes a little while back! I should try again in a little while.

Just going to install the 32bit to have a fiddle about with ...
  • Thanks for the link, MS sent me an email about this last week, I had forgot all about it TBH.

I might install it on a spare machine if I get 5 minutes, I beta tested both Vista and Windows 7, to be honest the developer versions can be a bit ropey to say the least, I may well wait until the release of the first stage Beta which I believe may well be before Christmas so I am told.

From what I have read there is nothing really huge to get excited about with this new release, everything is very similar to Windows 7, a few new features stolen from the mobile Application I believe, you never know though until you have the Beta, even then some features can be left out until manufacturer release.

I certainly would NOT install this on my main machine, but if you have a spare then why not, nice learning curve sometimes ;)

    Thanks again

  • Downloaded and installed the 64 bit version earlier on and I have been playing with it - just love new toys! Yes, lots of W7 stuff there with a few add-ons. Will keep playing and evaluating it until I throw it out of my pram!
  • I must admit I have changed my mind :)

I have been watching the key note video here:

    http://www.buildwindows.com/

It is very very exciting, especially from a developers point of view............

    I am going to test the low hardware claims and install it on a netpad later this evening, it has Win 7 on it at the moment and does not like it much, so we will see ;

Love the new Metro Apps, watch out Apple your days are numbered mu ha ha ha ha ha :)

The anti-rootkit features are worth looking into, with secure boot and the measured boot via the trusted platform module (TPM) chips:

  • I've had this running for the last few hours and it's impressive so far. I've not noticed any difference in speed, but I am running it on my laptop for now. My main machine should give it some room to breathe if indeed this preview is faster than Windows 7 (I guess it's nowhere near optimal yet).

I'd strongly recommend installing it within your existing operating system using VirtualBox. The other virtual PC apps won't run it.

Ironic really, considering that Virtual PC is a MS product and it can't run this. VirtualPC is better anyway I suppose.

apparently, even when out of beta, win 8 will run on the existing win 7 spec. no need for new hardware. we shall see ...

I had a quick play on my touchscreen laptop.

It has potential, as an early build I quite like it, feels more consumer focused, the metro stuff is good but feels 'wrong' if you don't have a touchscreen.

Some things are really anoying, theres no dedicated programs list button, and that list will become crowded on a pc under normal usage.
I have to goto settings to shut down for some reason.
Theres no real back button which other devices have, so you just end up mashing the keys trying to guess how to leave a program.
Some gestures only work (eg swiping) only work with the touchscreen, doing somthing similar with the mouse/touchpad doesn't work.

    we'll see how it goes.
