It's the other drivers you actually need to be afraid of.
Statistically you are incorrect, despite your best planning.

No I am not. I am in control, and it is motorway almost all the way. I've been driving on motorways for 35 years and (Edit: lately at least, in my nether years!) never come close because I understand my machine, I arrange servicing how I like it and check it to be sure, I understand my capabilities and shortcomings, those of other road users, and the likely risks associated with them and the weather and I also drive a machine which is (regrettably) more likely to kill other road users if I am in an accident than it ever is to disintegrate and leave me dead.

I told you I know best about my own transport and you didn't believe me :p

So you really think that he sends planes up in the air "just cos he thinks it's safe".

I can't believe what I'm reading. When will anyone realise that the guy is just a one man PR machine?

I will criticise Ryanair for many things but not on safety. As a budget airline their entire reputation relies on a spotless safety record. Air France, American and other major carriers have had crashes in recent years but somehow nobody thinks they are unsafe - yet imagine the uproar if Ryanair had a crash, they would be history. Considering the thousands of flights they have every year, they have an industry-leading safety record. They have never had a fatal incident.

RyanAir on Watchdog. Martin made a good point that this new card is far easier to get than the previous Electron cards. Looks like a positive step forward to me :)

I get fed up with the Ryanair bashing. If you don't like them, don't use them. How often do you go into the pub, pay your beer money and get champagne???

Just booked a £50 return flight to Murcia for me. I don't need hand luggage, I use a pre- paid Mastercard (which I will change when the new one comes out) and I will play by their rules. I can't get a return train journey to London for that price and I can't fill my car up with diesel for less.

Trying to book the same flight with Jet2 (using their FREE loyalty scheme) meant havig to choose different dates, fly to Alicante and pay £60 in taxes. Once all that was decided and I proceed to check out, I am hit with a fuel surcharge!!!!

Thanks bt no thanks, i'll stick with cattle class for my 2 hour journey thanks.

edit to add: Oh, other airlines charge for using cards/ Paypal too as do travel agents. Haven't come across ny travel agents waiving their 2% fees (except for cash payments)

Most airlines offer free payments with a debit card, or at least visa electron. You need to load a whopping £150 onto Ryanair's card. So if you brought 2 return flights at £10 each, you would have £110 left on it to spend. If you spend it anywhere other than ryanair.com, you're hit by a 50p charge for every single transaction (even for a £1 sandwich). If you leave the £110 on the card (which Ryanair is earning interest on) for your next Ryanair flights in a few months time, Ryanair will deduct £2.50 for every month you don't spend with the card. The excessive charges + potential lost interest barely makes it worth applying for.

I know people don't want to spend money on any fees but what is wrong with buying something after 5 and a half months to pay the 50p and not pay the £2.50 per month if you did not buy something?

Edit: The potential loss of interest is a joke surely? it would be pennies on that kind of money!

Statistically lots is incorrect. In reality I am what I am and I make my own luck through my behaviour and consequently bend statistics constantly this way and that, doesn't everybody? Statistical trends are one thing. Single entity trends are another. Single entity trends are not bound by general statistics unless general statistics are so pervading as to make entity identity irrelevant. (I do come up with some BS sometimes, don't I? ... but some of it bears a double take :p)

Edit: What I should be saying is that it is the same for airlines as it is for motorway drivers

Most people are too blinkered to make sense of the situation like this. It won't suit everyone that's for sure, the £150 min load and inactivity charge are inconvenient and not worth the hassle for some, after all it is only £12 return, but for a family of 4 for example It's well worth the minimal effort.

I buy 4 tickets at a time (myself, wife and 2 kids) to Dublin. That is £48 in fees each time I want to fly with Ryanair. I fly Prestick / Edinburgh to Dublin about 5 times a year, thats £240 in fees. Avoiding the fee by getting this card is a no brainer for me. I currently have the Neteller card and before that the Electron card. Am I going to get this new Ryanair card? Well yes! It is a tool to avoid paying the £12 return per person, why would anyone not get it?
