Exploding Tomato Ketchup

My Mum had a bottle of Heinz Tomato Ketchup in the cupboard which exploded. It damaged the majority of the rest of the food which she had in her cupboard. She also had to scrub the inside of the cupboard and the doors which are white because the ketchup had left a red stain. I contacted Heinz via their website and they have sent me an envelope to return the bottle in. I feel like my Mum should be refunded for having to throw a lot of the food out. What do yous think or what should I do?

Why did she have to throw it out? Wasn't it in tins or packets?
Also, bear in mind the storage recommendations. I thought you were supposed to store ketchup in the fridge, once opened. If it had been opened and she ignore this recommendation (if it was on the bottle) then Heinz won't accept any responsibility.
Sounds like something fermented in the bottle ... rather like making home-made beerIt bubbles & bubbles and if the bubbles aren't released, then BANG!
Warning ..... I'm a peri-menopausal axe-wielding maniac0 -

Thanks for responding! She had to throw some of them out because it went through the outer packaging. Not sure if bottle had been opened or not, therefore don't know if it should have been in fridge!0 -

I presume they sent an envelope for the bottle so they can establish why it exploded, until then they won't offer any compensation, has your mum asked them for any yet?I am a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Wales, Small Biz MoneySaving, In My Home (includes DIY) MoneySaving, and Old style MoneySaving boards. Thanks for responding! Mum got me to email them because she doesn't like complaining. Mum nor I have asked for compensation, although I did point out that it damaged other food in the cupboard and stained the white doors.0
