  • My son and his girlfriend got one of these when they bought their house in December, actually they got another one a few days later so guessing that was a mistake. They got £500 towards their gas/electricity too. We've never had a sausage.
  • It's paid for by the interest on your mortgage, you know.

    Bah humbug.

    I'm just bitter because I didn't get one ;)

In addition to the hamper, I also got £150 cashback - though my solicitor took this and I paid her £150.00 less in fees. All worked out quite nicely :-)

We got one of these too, I'm ashamed to say I ate the full box of shortbread to myself, it was delish :o

I had my first mortgage with the Halifax and didn't get one of these, wondering if it was because we've got a bigger mortgage this time ;)

dunno, it's the second mortgage I've had with them and the first time I've had this gift - must be their new thing. I remember when they gave out free mugs to mortgage customers. The email telling staff to stop handing them out and to recall them was funny. Went along the lines of 'there have been incidents of a malfunction of the mug when hot water is applied directly, resulting in the bottom becoming detached from the handle' I'm paraphrasing, but you get the gist!
  • isnt this like the new homeowner box that your agent can order for you if they are feeling nice?

Sort of, but the contents are better quality. When I got the box from the EA, it just had samples of cleaning products, cheap loo roll and a paintbrush.

Ive been with halifax 24 years, and several properties, and never had this guess it is new. A couple of friends had it recently I note.

I got £300 cashback when I switched to W though, which would buy a lot of shortbread!
  • its not from the halifax its from the tax payers :(

with our money they should be concentrating on paying it back, same goes for Lloyds paying all of our cash out to the olympics

as someone said bah humbug :)

I also noticed they have a '24/7 gift box helpline' for you to phone if you have any questions/feedback. Seems a bit OTT...I remarked to my partner that I'd rather they kept the gift box, closed down the helpline and lowered our interest rate!

On a less bah humbug note, it was really nice to come home from work to find it sitting on the doorstep, so I'm not complaining one bit.
  • I got an email from my EA offering a welcome box of stuff, haven't seen it yet as they're posting it to my new address when I finally get in. Or even if it goes through at this rate. So I think some EA's do it also. Nice little gift though. How are you settling in?
Everything I know, I've learned from Judge Judy. :p
