Came home from work to see a smart-looking square cool box type thing sitting on my doorstep, with 'Halifax' emblazoned on the side...
Opened it to find a 'welcome to your new home' card, a bottle of wine, chocolates, shortbread, fancy teabags and coffee, nice handwash and lotion, a mini tool box and a bag of picture hooks!
Totally wasn't expecting that. Do all mortgage companies do that? It almost makes me feel better about giving them all our money each month...

I only got a welcome to your new home text message. I was rather impressed that they'd timed it so we were walking down the drive having just picked up the keys. No chocolates, but they didn't take my first months mortgage payment until the end of the month even though we'd completed on the 12th so no complaints there.0

Seems Halifax is pretty generous..I suppose they can afford to be, with the interest rate we're paying!0

I was really surprised to get this too.
We also got our B&C insurance with them which was a lot cheaper than any on price comparison sites but we got a free bluray rental each week for a year and a £50 cashback cheque from them. If you add all that up its actually worth more than the cost of the insurance so we were really pleased.0 -
