REFUSED 3 contract yet... Experian is 985!!
Hello, I hope I have put this in the correct section.
Finally after 3yrs of pay as you go and living off my brothers old phones when he upgrades I had decided to relent and get an iphone 4 on contract through mobiles.co.uk on the 3 network.
I order, 45mins later : refused.
I am puzzled, naturally if I was aware my credit was iffy I wouldn't apply however, I know my experian is 985, we have just moved house (6wks ago) got a cracking mortgage deal no worries.
Prior to moving I cleared £1500 between two credit cards and closed the accounts (both 'good credit' credit cards). I cleared my storecard to zero then as well but left the account open but balance at zero.
I have no credit. BUT.... I have a credit history.
So why on earth have I been refused a mobile contract!? could it be that my score is too high and I have cleared everything? could it be that I have moved house in the last 6 weeks (even though they asked for my last address where we had been 6yrs)?
My bank account hasn't changed,if anything my wages gone up as I am off maternity leave now.
So confused... incidentally, OH was also REFUSED a contract with 02 about 7 weeks ago (just before we moved) and he knew his experian was 999!!!!

You need to get a copy of ytour credit file. Scores don't mean much; it's the detial you needd to check. It costs £2 for a copy.0

Your score means nothing, it's a random number, stop paying for it, there's a good chance you'll have been declined because you've recently moved house0

985 and 999 don't mean almost anything as lenders use their own systems to work with the data in the credit files.
Small errors and discrepancies in details can make a big difference.
Get your files for £2 and check them. Read the above guide. If everything looks fine try contacting '3' and asking them.0 -
Chances are you are not on the electoral role at your new house which certainly had a bearing with Tmobile for me. Also have experian updated their records for your new address ?
The biggest thing for me was that because my address has 2 parts before the road name Experian cannot/willnot handle it & end up with the road name in the Town & the town in the County !0 -
Thanks for the replies.
Well, I had a good look at the file last night, found a few old errors back to 2006, there was an odd address on the system, Barclays got my postcode wrong and said I lived somewhere else in the county so thats being amended.
Also my old address from 6wks ago was still as my current address because it hadn't updated.
Just had a call from mobiles.co.uk saying she could look at different networks for me as 3 are apparently the most fussy network and they are the only ones that check electoral role (are you sure salesperson?)
I said that would be a silly thing to do - if I already have a decline and a footprint for yesterday for no 'bad credit' reason - I am not on the electoral role overnight and I have still only lived at the current address for 6 weeks then NOTHING has changed.
Again, she said 3 are very picky.
I said if my OH was refused with 999 and not a mark ever, ever on his file then what is the point in me getting a decline again?
With that she hung up!
Do they really think people are that stupid to apply for credit again the day after a decline?!!0 -
It's the first time I hear that '3' are the most fussy/picky network.
I think they are known to be very (the most?) lenient.
And yes, a recent change of the address can be a serious issue though.0 -
3 generally seem to question referal sales more than direct - its odd, if you go direct they seem to accept you, if you go through someone they have to pay commission to they seem to be less willing...then strangely you get 3 direct sales calls further down the line...hmmm odd?0

funny you should say that, when I spoke to 3 yesterday they said they could put me through to sales (I was speaking to credit referals to see what the problem was) and see if things could be resolved....?
I said no,PLUS, 3 wanted £99 for the iphone on the same contract price whereas mobiles.co.uk were offering it for free.
nevermind, I shall await my brothers upgrade to iphone 5 and have his iphone 4 for nothing:rotfl:0 -
you say that you tried 6weeks before you moved
when i got refused twice i was told that i shouldn't apply for any credit for 6mths i did that and then got a mobile phone contract
i tried O2 and they were the ones that refused me then like i said 6mths later i got it from O2
its not aways anything to do with bad credit my credit was fine....some times it could just be your name or if you have never had credit.Nobody is Perfect. I am Nobody, therefore I am Perfect.

I have had credit before, quite a good history of good credit (up until I paid it all off and closed the accounts before we moved).
My partner applied 6-7 weeks ago, I haven't had a mobile contract for a couple of years now, just been living off my brothers hand me downs on pay as you go.
I did read on the web as well that 3 and Vodafone are the easiest with bad credit --- and I still get turned down.
Oh well...it doesn't always pay to be good then?0
