Disneyland Paris hotels

We are looking to go to Disneyland Paris in March taking along a 10, 11 and 2 year old...

Can anyone advise what the hotels are like and how to choose one over another . Some only have a diference of £20 to pay to upgrade so not sure if worth doing . Also has anyone any experiences of the Davey Crockett Ranch.. not sure whether to self drive or do Eurostar..

  • We have stayed at Sequioa Lodge & Davy Crocket. Both are very nice & both have their pros & cons. Davy Crocket I would say we preffered - more space, more relaxed, almost Centre Parcs like, but is the next junction down from the theme park so you do need to travel a bit. Sequioa Lodge is on site within walking distance of the park, a large hotel, as they all are.

Would recommend either, if you can afford it go for the Disneyland hotel right at the main gate!

We stayed at Davy Crockett last March for 3 nights and had a great time.
It was the best option as they can accommodate 6 people (the other on-site hotels were only 4 to a room so we would have had to book 2 rooms!)

If staying there I would definitely take a car as it is about a 10 minute drive away! (The drive to Disney from Calais is very easy, no jams...and costs about £18 each way in tolls, which you can nearly make up with the cheaper fuel in France!). It takes about 3-4 hours to drive there. The Disney car park is included in the price.

The lodge's themselves are really just large porta-cabins with logs attached to the side, but they are really nice inside - we were very impressed! You pick you breakfast up every morning and take it back to your lodge!

There is also a swimming pool at the Ranch which is quite good. Disney characters also visit the Bar/Restaurany in the evening.

Last Year we had a 3 nights for the price of 2, 3 free child places (with 3 paying adults), and 15% discount. All 3 discounts combined made it remarkably cheap (couldn't find a local hotel cheaper!), and the ferry crossing was only £19 each way for car and up to 9 passengers!
I've noticed this year that you have to choose either the 3for2 nights OR free kids places, you don't get both!!
  • Stayed at the Santa Fe in 2005, looks great in the brochure but its just a facade. Basic accomodation we couldnt fault however its very pricy for what you get. There were sparrows flying around in the resturaunt. We will try the holiday inn next time.

We've stayed in the New York, Newport Bay and Sequoia. All three are located around the lake, just a short stroll to Disney Village and the Parks. Out of the 3 we probably liked the Sequoia the best...it seemed better equipped for younger families. It also has a great bar with a huge log fire which is really good if you staying there in the winter months.
Saying that we had a great time in them all, it's just down to personal preference.

Stayed at the Santa Fe in Feb 2003.

    Basic but clean and functional.
Longish walk to the parks but our kids were 3 and 6 at the time and managed it OK. Walking might not be so pleasant if the weathers bad so that would make the bus a lot more crowded.
Food was fine but the queueing was a pain - if you do go there be prepared to just barge on in and form a second or third queue - the french did.

Second the suggestion to stay at the Disneyland Hotel if your budget allows - right at the Magic Kingdom gates, get in before everybody else, pop back to your rooms with gifts or to pick something up. It makes life a lot easier the closer to the parks you are.

Also recommend the Eurostar service - we paid for the Gold service (I think), basically first class, which included delivery of our bags to the hotel. this meant we could step off the train and start in the parks straight away, not take a trip to the hotel and back first.

Still sorting this out. Can anyone advise of the cheapest reputable place that sells disney hopper tickets...
And also if your feeling helpful any good deals on channel crossings taking the car. Thinking about doing it by booking ourselves
  • We have stayed at Davy Crockett ranch and Explorers hotel because we are a family of 6 and these (and Pierre et Vacances at Val d'Europe) are the only places where you can fit 5 or more in one unit. We much preferred the Explorers Hotel because there's no 15 minute drive to Disney every day, instead there is a 5 minute free shuttle bus, there is a lovely pool with 2 slides which is open long hours, more choice of food and better breakfast and an indoor play area for the kids. The rooms are like Travelodge / Travelinn and if there are 6 of you, there is an extra cabin room adjacent with bunk beds. This hotel is the most flexible for groups bigger than 4. Finally you can use the Eurostar to the Explorers hotel and all the other Disney hotels except Davy Crockett Ranch and leave your luggage at the station on arrival which is transported for you to the hotel whilst you go straight into the park.
  • We've previously stayed at the Sequoia, Newport Bay and the Dreamcastle hotel. We just visited over New Year and stayed at the New York Hotel. The best for kids is definitely the Sequoia. The Dreamcastle was really nice, but the order in which the buses collect and drop people off meant that we were always last and jam packed in. Using the Disney hotels (Sequoia, Newport Bay, New York) does mean that the parks are only a 5-10 min walk away. The Dreamcastle was much cheaper than the Disney hotels, but check out https://www.tripadvisor.com and read all the reviews. The 4 star hotels don’t even provide tea and coffee facilities in the rooms!! You have to ask for a kettle from housekeeping and then they charge you 8 Euros for a selection of teabags and coffee. Disney hotels have the Disney channel in English, but in the Dreamcastle the only English speaking channel is BBC World Service.
  • Price up the trip on Eurostar (we're going this month for about £90 each return) and staying at e.g. holiday inn. The bus service from the hotels by there is very good, and just as quick as walking from e.g. Newport Bay we've found.

We're paying under £300 for 2 adults for 2 night, excluding tickets (we've already got annual passes).
