What to tell 4yr old, SANTA!

When I was little I'd write a list for santa for my stocking, and another for main presents. Some I'd get, some I wouldn't, but my parents told me Santa only had so much money (the elves didn't make it in my house-I saw Santa Claus The Movie very young and didn't like all the wooden toys!!). So if it was from the list it was from Santa, if it wasn't it was from Mum and Dad. I had to wrie a thank you card to Santa as well as to others who bought me presents, so my parents go their thank yous that way I suppose (did thank them for 'their' present as well of course).
I found out Santa wasn't real for sure when I was 10. I had suspected for a while, but desperatly wanted to keep beleiving. One of my school friends told me, I was devastated, but didn't let on.Please excuse my bad spelling and missing letters-I post here using either my iPhone or rathr rubbishy netbook, neither of whch have excellent keyboards! Sorry!0 -
Santa brings stockings, everyone else gives the presents under the treePeople seem not to see that their opinion of the world is also a confession of character.

That's what I was going to say!! Why did nobody tell me before now
:( Well I still believe and he brings me presents every year!:o Mind you he does like me to thank him by climbing into bed at night
:rotfl:
lol!! just spat my tea over my computer when I read that!!!
on another note though, do any of you give yourself a present or am I the only saddo?! I even wrap it and stick a tag on with 'to me from you'0 -
I forgot to say the stocking is also from santa, never given myself a present . . . maybe I should start as I always make sure DH has quite a few bits to open under the tree and of course the kids have a nice pile each, I only get 1 present and thats from all 3 of them, and a few times i've actually been made to go out and pick it myself, they bring it home and DH wraps it up
I do love christmas, get the CD out mid october and must be the only person who isnt sick of christmas songs piping through every store for 3 months. One thing ive wondered is how do you do christmas presents? I have them all under the tree and the get handed out one at a time by me (its how my parents did it but dad was the hander out). Was a bit suprised when I went to DH's for the first christmas and the nieces and nephews each had a chair piled up with their gifts, kind of took the magic out for me as no-one could see what anyone had got and the un wrapping was over in about 3 minutes!
Ds was only 2 at the time and refused to open his presents as he got quite scared by his older cousins rushing past him and paper flying everywhere, took us over an hour to convince him to start and that was only after we brought them through one at a time to the kitchenSPC No 002 SPC(3) £285/£250 (4) £519.84/£500 (5) £768.32/£500 (6) £911.30/£600 (7) £913.23/£600 (8) £1184.82/£750 (9) £2864.04/£750 (10) £3846.25/£1000 (11) £1779.72/£1000 (12) £1596.55/£1000 (13) £1534.70/£1000 (14) £775.60/£1000 (15) £700.20/£1000 (16) £2081.34/£1000 (17) £1691.15/£1000 (18) £225/£10000 -
When I was small, it was always a scrum to see who could open all theirs first. My Oh's family does it the way you talk about, one at a time, someone hands them out in turn.
It's a much nicer way of doing it and we always do it that way now.Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -
no i never give myself a present. i never get presents off anyone. well i get a small one off my parents and they buy me a wee present off the boys and thats it but its like a fridge magnet and a coffee cup. its things like that that i appreciate though. i would rather have a shower in peace or a nice meal i sidnt have to cook rather than a present though lol0

oh and the presents are all under the tree and we hand them out 1 at a time and we each wait to see who got what before we open the next present but with my kids i only open a few at a time. on new years day last year we were still opening new presents coz they got so overwhelmed with all the new clothes and toys we opened a few then let them play with those and opened more the next day and so on.0

Mom and Dad give Santa the money to buy/make the pressies and he delivers them if he has decided that you have been a good enough child to deserve them."On behalf of teachers, I'd like to dedicate this award to Michael Gove and I mean dedicate in the Anglo Saxon sense which means insert roughly into the anus of." Hi all,
My lo has started asking questions about father christmas, i tell her santa brings her toys etc, but now shes started saying, So why do i say "thankyou" to you and daddy ? if santa brought them?, then when we go to relatives shes confused cos they give her the gift, and she says thankyou to them, but santa brought them ? lol arghh i just dont know what to tell her !
I'd tell her the truth. My eldest is also 4 years old.
You'll have to tell her eventually and you might as well do it before someone else does. Or are you going to vet all her friends to ensure they are from particular Christian backgrounds, believe in "Santa" and have a comparable family income?0 -
I used to tell DS1 that all the presents under the tree were from Santa until one year he wrote a christmas list totalling about £1500 (included a ELC climbing frame about £1000 all together) and after christmas you would also get 'well so and so got this, this and this, why didn't I get that', after that I told him and now tell DS2 that mum and dad send money to Santa and so and so's mum and dad must have more money (oh, the curse of peer pressure). I'm sure they mentioned something about the elves making the toys but we explained about Santa sometimes had to buy presents as well. Other presents are handed to them by the giver. DS1 was about 10 or 11 before he owned up to knowing the truth (he's happy to continue for hs brothers sake) and to be honest I was relieved as I find the whole secrecy thing stressfull, but it's part of the magic of childhood.
