  • in our house, i bought the presents and sent them to santa. that way there was an explanation why not everyone could have the latest or most expensive thing.
also sending them to sant, made them behave better in the run up to xmas, as santa might not deliver any presents if they had been naughty or had very untidy rooms.
santa always left a small present in the bedroom for them to open when they first woke up, usually a small book, or a toy car
all thankyou letters went to those who had bought the pressies, santa got one also for being kind enough to deliver and leave them there small pressie, seemed to work for us
loves to knit and crochet for others

In our house Mummy and Daddy give the big present, they get a present from each other and the rest are from Santa. Relatives presents are from relatives, we had a bit of worry when we stayed at nannys for christmas when we only had DS (would Santa know he wasnt at home!) but we just said as Santa knows if hes ben good or not we were sure he'd know that DS was at nannys.

DS is 10 now and im not entirely sure if he still believes or not!! If he doesnt fess up soon im going to have to sit him down as I really dont want him to go to secondary school and get the mick taken out of him  Part of me wonders if hes keeping it up for his little sister, but a tooth fell out a few weeks ago and he still poppedit under the pillow (even though I forgot for 4 nights the time before!)

  • Stockings are from Santa, just have to remember to buy completely different wrapping paper and keep it hidden! Everything else is from the people that bought it, but Santa comes on Christmas eve - eve to collect them all, magically unwraps and looks at them all to make sure they are ok, re wraps them and delivers them again! Worked for my three!
  • Santa bring stockings here too

I wish I hadnt read this thread :(

    santa isnt real???????

wonder who will get the letter I sent him to tell him I moved house then?
  • santa gives the main present and a stocking the rest of the presents are from whoever.

did you tell your child ALL her presents are from santa? is that whats causing confusion?
  • I'm really hoping that DD figures it out this year (she's 10) cos I can't send her to big school still believing (I'm sooo mean).

We say that Santa invoices us for the presents in january, and that he doesn't buy anything without our permission (she's been after a mobile phone for years).

She knows that the santas that we visit aren't the real one, and she knows that some of her friends don't believe.

I knew at a fairly early age (I had older brothers) I distinctly remember looking for presents around the house when I was probably 6 or 7.

Ditto for us - except now mil/fil say their presents are from Santa but still expect to be thanked for them so rather confusing for the lo's - last yr ds2 was only 3 so didn't question anything - we might have to get our stories straight this year.

My oldest stopped believing around 8 or 9 but kept up the pretence as "santa doesn't bring presents to those who don't believe in him". I've never told him there was no Santa.

I always told my kids that we buy the presents and send them to Santa but if they weren't good he wouldn't bring them.
My eldest was 8 when he sussed it, he pretended to be asleep then when we carried some presents down he appeared with a knowing smile then went straight back to bed and never told his younger siblings.
I was worried about my youngest still believing when he went to high school but my daughter put my mind at rest when she told me he had known for a few years but didn't want to disappoint me, plus he thought they might not get as many presents :rotfl:
It's much easier not having to hide things but the magic definitely goes once they stop believing.
