Surely, the only issues here are that:

    a) What is 'normal', and who has decided it? Perhaps we need a global vote.;)

    b) Why does it bother others how people live, relationship wise, providing it is all legal and consenting? How can anyone 'dislike' an entire group of people, based just on who they love/lust over?

    c) The Bible and other holy books say that a lot of things are 'not allowed' - I don't know ANYONE that sticks to all of the 'rules' so why does this issue cause such a lot of fuss?

    d) There's a lot of conflict, hate and nastiness in the world (a lot of which is religion based, it must be said), so surely if two people love each other and wish to make a public committment, that should be applauded, no matter what genders the relationship consists of?

If Christian God (or whoever God someone follows) is 'Love', surely 'He' would celebrate the love between two people, and not judge them - so what gives Man the perceived right to make judgements in 'His' name anyway?

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

While I'm not gay and not particularly pro or anti gay (does not factor into my life, don't care etc), the religious argument annoys me.

Religion is full of discrimination and hatred, so how about we ask if religion should be allowed?

Put me down as a no.

Should gay people be allowed to marry... Yes.

I've loved reading this thread. I knew what would happen right enough.

Marriage is nothing to do with religion. Marriage is about love, its about how two people feel about each other, not about some make-believe entity sitting in a cloud somewhere watching you. The best wedding I ever went to was a humanist one, after going to that the “religious” wedding made no sense.

I especially liked the idiot who bought adam and eve into it using them as an example for heterosexual persuasion being “right”. If that's the case what did cain and abel do? They we adam and eves only children and both male and we some how descended from them. And logically if you want to state adam and eve had unnamed daughters the bible then obviously doesn't have a problem with incest.

It would be illegal (quite rightly) but a) gay practise is a choice not an innate characteristic like gender or colour is and b) Religious organisations are exempt from the discrimination laws.

Now I don't like to reduce the whole point to if it's a choice or not as I don't believe our opinions should hinge on just this, but to focus on this aspect for a moment, I have yet to meet a gay or bi person who claims it was a choice. So far all people I've met with personal experience insist that it's as much a characteristic as being black or having blue eyes. I also believe that characteristics are not just things we see in photographs of people, our minds are both physical things and creations of our life experiences. How much is defined by the physical aspects we inherit and how much is leant during life is hard to determine, but I have no doubt it's a combination of both things.

Of course Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender people should be allowed to marry. Who's to say they shouldn't?

I don't believe in "religion" I believe in science and science shows us that homosexuality occurs in the natural world. For example, Dolphins often participate in recreational gay sex. As do Dogs. Bonobo's are also highly promiscuous in same-sex couples/bi-sexual couples. So there's nothing weird or unusual about it happening in the human animal.

Why shouldn't homosexual couples have the same rights as heterosexual couples? They should have the right to try and fail along with everyone else! ;) Although I know some same-sex couples who've managed many, many more years together than straight couples. Think that probably tells us all we need to know. :D

Why try to stop gay marriage? Surely peoples energy would be better served trying to help other people and not being ignorant and intolerant and denying people rights that they should have been given a long time ago.

If we really want to get onto the religious debate.......(and this is just my own view and i do not believe in any religion)

If you believe Jesus existed and went around with 12 other men, and nowhere does it say that he slept with women.....did he sleep with any of his followers cause i cant believe that any adult would go around for 2 decades and not want any sexual experiences...... i know i will probably rattle a few cages but if you think of it logically if there are no women mentioned (save for Mary M) then he must have happened with his followers..... (once again this is my own view, i do not claim this to be the truth or the public viewpoint of any other person)

You could also say that if God created man/woman then he also created homosexuality and so therefore as gods 'children' why try to stop gay marriage? Surely peoples energy would be better served trying to help other people and not being ignorant and intolerant!

Of course it's perfectly believable that someone would live without any sexual experiences and I'm shocked that you would think otherwise.

If you re read my post the choice refers to gay practise not the state of being gay.
