Mobile with free laptop

Looking for some help, I'm nearing the end of my 24 month contract with Orange (November 7th) and starting to think about getting a new phone.

My partner has used the websites that you get a free gift with new mobile contract on his last 2 phones and I'm thinking of doing the same. I would be looking for a laptop/netbook with an HDMI port for the free gift. With regards to the phone I was thinking either HTC Sensation, Samsung Galaxy S2 or similar. My bundle would need to include unltd texts, around 300 mins and 500-750MB internet.

Does anyone have any knowledge of deals out there which cover the above? I dont have a problem paying the remainder of my Orange contract and cancelling as my monthly amount is minimal so to take advantage of a limited time offer it would be worth it.

Thanks in advance!

You can either use their filters or just check independently the main companies listed there that specialise in "gifts"

That said, IMHO all 'gift' deals are very poor value, especially compared to monetary cashback (redemption) deals.

Also, if you don't have any particular deal in mind, what "limited time offer" are you talking about and why would you want to waste money on early termination fee?

Thanks but that comparison tool doesnt seem to be working very well, it doesnt filter out the specific phones that I have chosen and keeps asking me to go through 100+ pages of cheap neasty ones looing for the phone I have selected.

Anyway, I just meant that I know every so often a fab deal comes about that isnt available for long, I would have to pay around £20 for the remainder of my contract so if a good deal is available then I wouldnt mind doing that to take advantage of it.
  • I'm sorry but you've got about as much chance as getting a 'free' laptop with either of those phones as pigs learning to be astronauts and circling Uranus in a spaceship made from tinfoil. Free gifts deals tend to be overpriced and the handsets are usually mid to low range. You either choose a high end phone or a gift. You will struggle getting both unless you're willing to pay £50+ a month.

Select the gift first, then you will be able to select the phone and change the gift.
Otherwise select the phone in the top right corner first, then select the gift and change the phone if you want.

Your post is self-contradicting as the OP said nothing about the monthly price. Some laptops (don't know about HDMI) are available on £50+ contracts. Yes, very poor value for money, but not impossible.

This says it all really. The intention of 'free gifts' is to give the impression you're getting something for nothing.

In fact, you get a low-mid range handset on an relatively expensive contract, which covers the cost of the gift.

You're effectively paying monthly for your 'free gift' and more often than not, you end up paying at least as much overall as you could spend seperately.

There are quite a few threads where this has already been discussed, so have a search on this forum. Basically, the good deals with 'free gifts' are very few and far between.

How is it self-contradicting? There is no such thing as a free gift which is the point I was trying to make.

    I have to disagree.
The value is poor only if compared to cashback (redemption) deals.
However, if you compare the total price of the

    sim-free handset
    +
    PAYG or sim-only contract airtime
    +
    gift

you will usually find that it is considerably higher than the total price of the deal with a 'gift'.
  • Take the Samsung Galaxy S 2 for example. The cheapest deal on that comparison came out at £546 over the two years (OT but bloody good deal!) and has the allowances which the OP was looking for. Factor in a laptop (worth £300 ish) you end up paying £1368, therefore not free.

The cheapest deal I see is £624, not £546, but I have to agree with the rest of your post. 'Free' laptops come only with excessive unneeded minutes.
  • Thankyou for all your replies, the only reason I was looking for a new laptop was because I dropped a jar on the keyboard and now its not working. Just have to claim on the contents insurance and get a cheaper deal on my new contract :-D
