No offence, but there is a huge difference in the price point of £95 and £180... Plus there is some licenced bundled software for no extra cost. Also a desktop tends to have a longer life than a lappy, and it would be quite easy to add on a usb Hard drive.

I thought this would be of interest to people who are really struggling and can't spend £200+ to set up a pc system. I know the spec is not all singing and dancing... but Windows 7 can use a flash drive or sd card in place of RAM and does not eat Ram like Vista did. 40gb is ample for surfing with school work type stuff . Yes it is not any good as a gaming or photo editing machine, but thats not what its trying to be.

Maybe its the title, I put government backed, and possibly should have said Microsoft led instead...

Mamzie, I appreciate the good intent but they are dogs - and old dogs at that.

Better to find the extra £50-60

BTW there are always decent spec desktop refurbs at DSG online for about £200, might need to wait a week or 2 until they come back in stock but they always do

Everyone is entitled to an opinion but I didnt not make it personel on her with anyone so why start on me. Maybe I will start a march & support the BNP or Combat 18 or some other right wing use Hitler as a role model. Just shut up yourself & jog on

Actually you are wrong, you do not have the right to your opinion on HERE! There are plenty of vent or soapbox forums for you to air your opinions on, THIS however is the GRABBIT board.

Oh thanks OP, duly ordered mine. :)

Not People on Benefits are SPONGERS

Get over your selves this is about people saving money and helping people to save money is it not!!!!!!

I have a good job and my wife is lucky she has a part time job and works her hours around mine, great for the kids; but we only really see each other at the weekend, thro the week its just handover time.

I have a relative who has two kids and never worked a day in her life, she fell pregnant at a young age to one guy who turned out to be a 'ahole' then she had another child and this Dad never stuck around, her little ones are now getting to age were she can get a job but it will have to be around the school terms. I have never come across many jobs that align with school holidays and hours that pay enough to get you off benefits unless your a teacher, teachers assistant etc. etc.

Dare I suggest that if your post will not help save people money (What This Forums about) don't post simple, yes some banter is good. But a lot of people using this forum are on some form of Benefit and want to save money.

    Lets keep it that way!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sounds good to me as I was only stating a point. Some people just dont see what I was getting at & I was not having a go at the genuine people that need benefits due to certain circumstances I was trying to get accross that a lot of benefit people are on benefits cause the cant work due to the "cant be arsed policy". If I have upset any genuine people I apologise. End of rant

I work in this line of business and believe me when I say that PC's of this spec are 'throw away'. Some places who reclaim these items by taking them from customers sites as waste resell them and in the past I have bought them for around about £10 each including monitor. Only diference being that they would have had Windows XP on them, but perfectly legal with a COA attached to the side of the machine.

Community groups and charities should be able to get this type of machine for nothing from most places as this type of equipment is usually donated etc.

I know this is going back to the first page, but I agree with Dave here, we recently disposed of 10 of this model (with better processors), because we could not find anyone who wanted them for free! Maybe I should have stuck them on here for £90 each
  • (haven't read all responses)
Do people do realise that by buying a computer (whether on benefits or not), they will not have access to the internet?
This is an added monthly fee to do this, I doubt there's any Gov subsidised broadband...

Perhaps this initiative is aimed at sky tv customers who I presume can have broadband added at little cost...
  • If I remember, you get the PC cheaper when you take up Post Office Broadband.....
