Goverment Backed - Cheap Refurb PC Package £165/£95
Comments
-
I said very clearly that these are quite low spec. Yet some people, really don't need or expect a lot from a pc, and can easily spend much more for a higher spec pc but not really need it. I honestly feel that these would be fine just for surfing and basic pc stuff. They are a low cost way for someone to get a pc for a child or their family if they needed one. For someone struggling to make ends meet, theres a huge difference between £95 and £300+...
I am disabled, but do volunteer help when possible, and my hubby works full time. I know a little parent run toddler group that would very likely love to have one of these, and a few other local people led community groups. These kind of groups are very unlikely to get a pc donated to them or know how to wipe and reformat a donated pc, plus put updated software on.
And I actually forgot to mention the other reason I like these... Its keeping a lot of electronic goods that are still working out of landfillMy light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly
Our Precious Baby Tianna has now joined our Family, she is much loved and very welcome, xxx0 -

Thank you very much for managing to raise my anger levels to such a high rate in such a short time! You have managed to completely offend and anger me by such a naive and insensitive response.
I am on benefits through redundancy and can honestly say that whilst there are jobs around - part time and low paid I am not financially able to apply for them as they would leave me worse off by a long way compared to benefits leaving me vulnerable to losing my home and becoming grievously in debt. I am unfortunate enough to be single and without any way of sharing my accommodation or having anything to sell to gain extra money- I am not a hoarder! In most of the jobs that I can apply for (taking into account of my skills and qualifications) I am required to have a car and this is financially crippling me given that without actually moving the car I need to have insurance and tax!
I am at present having to use a computer that is so low spec.that the OP's post is almost an upgrade in comparison.
As to getting kids involved in charitable organisations - many do and they also access libraries and schools ! That and the need for young people to be able to use more modern programmes means that their skills are not being stretched or enhanced to their present knowledge using this equipment
I applaud you for getting employment through your own methods however it is clear that it is a case of horses for courses and one size does not fit all! You obviously were fortunate to find employment in something that suited your skills and abilities but many young people have had unrealistic expectations ingrained into them and never had the skills or true sustained opportunities to realise them. - what young people want and need are trades and quality education not stereotyping and castigation so your point is completely invalid.
It is commonly understood that idle hands do the devils work and in this context and my perception of your beliefs suggests that you feel that benefit recipients and young people are 'unworthy' of any support I would like to suggest that sometimes we all need help and support to enable us to achieve and succeed. Incidently just because people are on benefits given this site many are able to squirrel away a little bit each week month or whatever and have by default gone without to enable the purchase of this computer - had you considered that?!
That said the comment made by another poster about the spec and the way in which these computers are acquired only underpins the basic levels of support given to an individual on benefits or otherwise!

True. Thanks to MSE and the other people on here that help the pound go that bit extra.0 -
have to say you'd probably be better off with one of those e machine net tops .. e buyer did have some at £109 minus the monitor on offer - if its for basic use0

Here Here to all the above posters!!! some very good points made above!!
Makes me feel slightly more humble in the fact that i am not the only one in my 'benefits' postion, and that even for people that arent, they are sometimes understanding of mine, and many other millions of peoples postions around the country. x
bless you all. xProud Mummy to a new little girl - Phoebe... born 11 days overdue on 3rd Jan 2012.0 -
It should be avaliable to only charities or community groups. In fact let the goverment give it to these groups for free & get the kids involved & off the street & teach them about pc's from an early stage.
Isn't that called a Library ? They are cutting them....

You still need a monitor, keyboard and mouse! For £95 I don't think it's a bad deal for basic access:
1) Win 7 Pro
2) Microsoft Office 2007
The cheapest base unit on eBuyer at the moment is the Acer Revo for £195.The man without a signature.0 -

WOW, I bet when the OP that posted this never thought she was going to start a Class/Benefits Revolt.
Again TAR people with the same brush why don't you!!!!
There are minority of people that do not want to work EVER and they know who they are, however the rest of people on benefits are not like that, they are on benefits as a matter of circumstance, Mums/Dads wanting to look after their children (Not a crime in modern day society having kids and looking after them)
People trapped on benefits cause if they take a job they are worse off, (hard one that take this job and you will be worse off; didn't the staff at BA strike cause they were to take a pay-cut?) my friend was in this position in the end he had to take a job and had to work 72 hrs a week in order to equal his benefits!!!!
I have only claimed jobseekers allowance or what ever its called for a total of 6 months on and off, I am very lucky to have a good job now and dont blame people on benefits for every thing that goes wrong or get discounts for.
How much has it cost for our brave Forces (Not Just The Money Either) going to wars that has not made our country any safer, Billions and Billions of pounds.
The Jobs getting cut on the services I don't mind paying my Taxes for them to sit around now and again as long as they are there when we need them Fire brigade, Ambulance and Police.
