Nice deal on dixons online at the mo - 20% discount applied at purchase on refurbs - desktops, laptops - get a nice spec modern machine for not much more than these dogs, maybe £50 more to get something 10 x as good
  • Thankyou to the OP for this.. im sure even though, some people on here have commented that these PCs are rubbish.. that the OP was unaware of this, and simply trying to help someone... surely she/he deserves a little grattitude??

Anyway, the reason why i have decided to post, is everyone talking about that this offer is only available to Benefits people..... and if they can afford a computer, then they should have their benefits cut... well, heres my two pence..

I, myself am on benefits, my husband works full time, but due to the pittence he gets paid, we still qualify for benefits, we have 2 children.
yes, i probably could go out and get a job, i probably could go out and work all the hours under the sun... . but i would rather be at home, enjoying the time i have, with my children. .... i dont want to go get a job.... i dont want to come home from work on an evening, knackered, and then only see my children for 2 hours a day... who does??!!

so yes, i am 'sponging' of all you Tax payers, as you seem to see it..... but you know what... i have worked hard all my life, paid into the tax system, and when i got made redundant, i gave the majority of my redundancy pay to a childrens charity... so i give as good as i get too!!

I dont plan on being on benefits for the rest of my life, just whilst my children are still young, and i am happy to take advantage of any offer that comes my way because i am on benefits, wather its free prescriptions, or reduced prices on P.Cs.... why??.. because by God, my Kids deserve it!!!

So please dont judge, if you have never been in that situation before.. and dont tar everyone with the same brush.

    :)

OH MY GOOOOOODNESSS - Surley you must be having a laugh?
If we all did this, my GOD, the benefit system would COLLAPSE!
HOW can you justify this stance! I would LOVE for my wife to spend more time with our children, but you know what ? She goes out and works for minimum wage...Fair enough if you CAN'T work for some reason - or by all means, take time off to be with kids and NOT claim benefits...But your stance is not sustainable...:shocked:

Deal at Dixons for PC's looks good tho!

I know I will probably get flamed for this and I was annoyed by the posts about benefit scroungers too because it really isn't the case most of the time BUT I don't think the above post is the best example to prove not everybody is a benefits scrounger!
I would love to be at home with my kids (one of whom has autism) but I need to work, my husband works 70+ hrs per week and we literally pass each other going in/out of the door.
Lead me not into temptation, I can find the way myself.

wins - peroni bottle opener, peroni bowl, peroni coastersx2 and a vodkat cocktail kit,
would love to win something 'proper'!!

Am I missing something about the Dixons Refurbished offer? The cheapest desktop with a monitor is £289. With the 20% off that's still £231 and much much more than the system being offered for someone in the benefit groups for £95.

not everyone on benefits is a scrounger iv worked for 30 years and due to ill health {stroke x 2} iv had to stop working
always paid tax and insurance and now iv to survive on 60 quid a week
and believe me i will work again i just dont moan about people who are on benefits if thats the way they want to or have to live
    i feel sorry for them
not everyone is in a fortunate position to have work or are able to work
I totally agree with you my hubby and myself have worked for the last 20 years then all of a sudden he has kidney failure hes been in hospital for 4 months we are both 37.Its not nice when something like this happens and you have to rely on benefits.Weve gone from us both working to us having nothing with me having to be a carer so i hate been tarnished with the same brush and being called a scrounger.

No offence, but there is a huge difference in the price point of £95 and £180... Plus you get a moniter, keyboard and mouse, and there is some licenced bundled software for no extra cost. Also a desktop tends to have a longer life than a lappy, and it would be quite easy to add on a usb Hard drive.

I thought this would be of interest to people who are really struggling and can't spend £200+ to set up a pc system. I know the spec is not all singing and dancing... but Windows 7 can use a flash drive or sd card in place of RAM and does not eat Ram like Vista did. 40gb is ample for surfing with school work type stuff . Yes it is not any good as a gaming or photo editing machine, but thats not what its trying to be.

Maybe its the title, I put government backed, and possibly should have said Microsoft led instead...
My light may be on, but that doesn't always mean I am looking at the PC - I am far more likely to be cuddling or feeding Tianna atm, so please don't think I am ignoring you if I don't reply quickly :)

Our Precious Baby Tianna has now joined our Family, she is much loved and very welcome, xxx
