Tesco have some of their own brand suntan lotion on clearance at 20p per bottle at the moment.

This is probably old stock, last years?
I saw on a TV programme about suncare, and it did recommend not using 'old' lotions, as it was less effective. Not sure how much of this is true. Mind you at 20p you can put it on more regulaurly I guess.

My problem with P20 sun lotion is that it DOES NOT have any UVA star rating! Almost every other lotion from cheap to expensive has a star rating (5 being the best).

P20 has no such rating on the packaging and barely any mention on their website. it says

"Amazingly P20 gives medium protection (SPF 20) against the sun's burning UVB rays but still lets through some UVA rays to allow you to tan."

The lack of star rating leaves me somewhat skeptical about its effectiveness regarding UVA damage.

I agree, I used to use it when I was younger and still used to get really bad prickly heat. I just use normal Boots cream now and I never burn

I use am ambre solaire or avon lotion F25 or 30 for the first couple of days and then change to the malibu dry oil spray which I prefer, and re-apply regularly. I have always been sceptical about the 'apply once' lotions, but reading this I may give it a go.
    I use Avon's F30 ( in a tube) on my face.
  • try Banana Boat's baby range.

I got some from Superdrug last year for about £3! It's factor 50, and good for senstive skin, and seems fine on your face to wear under makeup (if you're so inclined!)

Really good value product, I think it's about £8 in Boots at the moment.

Most other sunscreens make my skin freakout, so this one is a real bonus.

we used to use p20 but found it stained white clothes really badly. We;ve switched to ultra sun which is the same sort of thing but we've not encountered any staining. Got it from the airport or on the plane

I'm sure I read / heard that Cancer Research sell cheap sun tan lotion in their charity shops.

I've not managed to check this out though and would be interested to know if anyone had got some from there??

I bought some discounted sun lotion from Tesco for a holiday I've just been on and it worked fine. My understanding on old lotions is that once you've opened it, it starts to degrade.

I wouldn't want to leave it for years but if you buy now and use in next few months should be ok?

Last year I used Boots version of P20 - I think it was called Once and it was really good as I often burn from forgetting to reapply. I'm always really thorough in the beginning but then forget to apply after an hour or two.
I've got my own flat :j:j

Now I have to pay the bills

And feed my interiors addiction ;)

Just bought 2 X 200ml "Smart Price" factor 15 out of ASDA for 99p each (marked £1.79 on bottle)
  • I used to use P20 but hated it staining clothes, have now used Parasol 20 which has filters for UVA and UVB doesn't stain clothes, me, hubby and kids use it (one is fair skinned and blonde) and we have never burnt, but none of us sit out in sun without some shade for hours a day. I buy online as I think it is from an Irish company.
