you put your bag on, empty, and it calibrates itself then you scan and put in the bag.Don't put it DOWN; put it AWAY"I would like more sisters, that the taking out of one, might not leave such stillness" Emily Dickinson

To be honest I don't really have an issue with buying them, 5p doesn't exactly break the bank.0

It happened in England when I was growing up. Standard practise back then to charge for carrier bags. The "complaint" of the day back then was "why should customers be charged for something which gives the company free advertising".
And it was 5p back in the day when we were charged beforeTo be honest I don't really have an issue with buying them, 5p doesn't exactly break the bank.

Tesco give you points for supplying your own bag as it saves them money. The "free" bags are paid for by Tesco. In Wales the customer is paying for the bag so there is little incentive for them to reward green shoppers. It may improve their green credentials if they did continue to reward shoppers who provide their own bags.If Tesco aren't going to be issuing greenclub card points in wales because of this new charge, isn't that a little bit racial?
It's also unlikely it infringes your human rights.0 -

(yes I know I'm being petty but I see it as being discriminatory against one part of the UK)
The Welsh needn't get too upet...they can re-use their 5p bag when they visit the chemist to collect prescriptions that we English pay over 7 quid for :rotfl:0 -
I personally think it is good as it is a deterrent against wasting plastic.
However I note if you were buying loose vegetables/fruit they can't charge you for the plastic bag, so I guess if you wanted to get round the charge, make sure you always buy a loose banana or something!
Buying a pre-packaged item cancels the loose items out meaning the 5p charge will apply..so buy 3 loose bananas and a pint of milk and you pay 5p for the bag..whereas 3 loose bananas will get you a free bag.
I can understand it for supermarket shopping etc but who goes out to the chippy etc and thinks ooh must take a bag with me?
I am tight so I can see me struggling a bit with this as I wont pay 5p for a bag lolShe has the loaded handbag of someone who camps out and seldom goes home, or who imagines life must be full of emergencies..0 -

That's the point. They are trying to change people's attitudes so that they do remember to take a reusable bag with them.0 -

but people like me who have to shop online (and do have lots of reusable bags because they forgot to take one shopping and bought another, because yes, we do believe in minimising waste...) will just have to pay for bags -- and except for Waitrose's, online deliveries come in very small bags... -- or inconvenience the driver by taking things, one by one, out of the crates...., slowing the whole process up.
and by the way, plastic bags can be recycled (but not by my local council, of course... ), and used as small-bin liners, and as plastic "gloves".

But my Tesco bags degrade in a matter of weeks as it is - Hardly going to sit there trying to rot for 100 years as the government tries to tell us!
If they charge me 5p per bag i think i might go back and demand my rights under the SOGA saying that these bags that are degrading so quick are not fit for purpose to be used especially as lidl only charge 10p for thick plastic bags that do not degrade and are also a lot bigger!floralaura wrote: »I can understand it for supermarket shopping etc but who goes out to the chippy etc and thinks ooh must take a bag with me?
My chippy uses brown paper bags (albeit this is in england) lol.0
