Phone obsession, am I going mad?

I've been Money Tipped!

Hi, this might sound extreme but am going to post it and see if anyone can help calm me down over this. Back in April this year I had a simple Nokia phone on a 3 contract which I'd had for a year and a half and it worked fine, never thought of changing until my contract was up and then I'd have probably got another basic phone. I could text, MSN and browse the Internet with the Nokia so it did what I wanted. Then in April the screen froze. I panicked and was going to go into the 3 shop but my boyfriend had got a spare Sony Erikson Stylo so I started to use that and I quite liked it. I intended using that until my contract was up (this coming November) and then get something else from 3. My friend took the Nokia and managed to get it going for me, he said it was the software that needed updating. He asked me if I wanted it back and said no and that I would stick with the Sony.

Then my boyfriend decided to swap his devoted Sony Erikson for a Blackberry Curve and tried to talk me into getting one. I saw his and liked it, felt I had to have one. I went to 3 and found out my contract isn't up until November but they told me I could take out a Blackberry contract and reduce the other contract to £12 per month and just pay that extra until November and then I can cancel it.

I couldn't get used to the Blackberry, a friend of mine suggested the Noka X2-03 and felt that would suit me better (touch and type). I went to 3 and asked if I could swap my contract to the Nokia, they agreed. I had a Nokia again and felt at home. But I couldn't get used to the touch screen on it so, without giving myself time to get used to it, off I went back to 3 and asked if I could swap back to the Blackberry. They agreed but said it was the last time I could swap so I got the Blackberry back again.

Then about a month later I started wishing I'd have given the Nokia touch screen more time to get used to and was finding the Blackberry and bit bulky so I went into a cheaper phone shop and bought a Nokia X3-02 as I knew that 3 wouldn't let me change again. I used the Nokia for about two days and went back to the Blackberry. I sold my Nokia to the friend who had suggested I try it in the first place.

And now, please don't think I'm crazy but I have been tempted by the Nokia again! My brother has a Blackberry as a work phone and he is due to retire and will have to give his phone to work and get another one. I got the idea that he can have my Blackberry as he has used one for years so yesterday I went to the 3 shop and bought another Nokia X3-02 on pay as you go, I've put my SIM card in, have set it up and its fine, I like it.

But now I am thinking, what if I start to miss the Blackberry again? Yes its fiddly, its bulky etc but the screen is bigger for the Internet. However I have now told my brother he can have my Blackberry so I can't go against my word.

Why can't I just settle for one phone? I was quite happy with my basic Nokia until my boyfriend set me off with the Blackberry, I'd never even thought of it before.

I feel I am going mad, plus I am wasting money. What would you do, have the Blackberry or the Nokia?

  • I love my HTC HD2 (windows), before I was a Nokia fan, i wouldn't have any phone but a Nokia, when I first got my HTC I thought OH NO, What have I done, but stuck with it and am reluctant to upgrade in Novemeber since i'd miss it lol

Personally i'd get both phones up on the internet, work out which one was suitable for me, what features etc etc. Then i'd make my decision.

I guess it's the old saying of always wanting the new and updated gadgets, maybe this is why you can't settle for one phone? Something better comes along and you want it?

Stick with what you've got until your contract is up again :) you'll probably find you wont want to part with it! :)

I don't make many calls, and I tend to stick to the one phone on PAYG.

I've had an Orange San Francisco for nearly a year now and first thing I did was unlock it, get rid of all the Orange stuff and try out custom ROMs.

It still feels like a new phone, and does more than I'll ever need.

  • Thanks for your replies. I can't get on with the Nokia after all. Its good for texting, good for music and I like the touch screen for everything but browsing the Internet, the screen is small and its hard to see a full page and when scrolling it goes all over place. Also during a phone call earlier it almost cut out. I can return it within seven days so I may do this. Thing is I have promised my Blackberry to my brother now and won't go back on my word so what I get back from the Nokia I may just put too and get another Blackberry and call it a lesson learned. I have had this Nokia twice before and didn't get on with it so that should have told me something. I think if I hadn't have got the Blackberry I would still be happy with Nokia, but now I've started with the Blackberry its hard to revert back to something more basic.
  • Can anyone tell me if these phones are good? I looked at some in Carphone Warehouse today and had a tinker but the touch screen texting seemed fiddly and when I spoke to the assistant she said after using a Blackberry getting one of these phones would be going backwards.

I do fancy a touch screen phone and a smaller one, not one of the bigger Samsung ones and smaller than my Blackberry Curve.
  • I have the larger galaxy, the s2. I was reticent at first, it seemed far too big to me, but i would be lost without it now. I barely switch a laptop or pc on in the house any longer. Give it a try. X

  • Thanks for this, I have seen this phone but its quite expensive. I am looking to sell my Curve and get something else with the money, don't think I'd get enough to buy the Galaxy.
  • Has anyone got this phone and has any views on it? It does look very slim and lightweight.
  • How many people here prefer smart phones or general basic ones?

37% of adults and 60% of teens in UK prefer smartphones.

I think on this board (and any other mobile forum) the percentage is much higher.
