Distance selling regs. If you google it you'll see what business sellers need to do by law.

So find something that is selling rather than spending time on MSE complaining about it. If it's your livelihood, then you can't afford not to.

Indeed. That is why I've gone from selling so many Dell Latitude D610's that I was thinking of renaming my business "Dell Boy" to newer models and Thinkpads. The D610s were getting hard to sell and not much money in them so they're now resigned to history here.
  • I make collectable diecast toys which used to sell for £200+ each. Now a cheaper made version gets £70. And even my stuff has been copied.
I am also into collectable films but again that market is flooded with private sellers listing and selling fakes. But it appears the buyers dont know how to tell a genuine article. As I have said earlier, its a buyers market now and as an earlier post stated, times were different and credit card money was a plenty. The Dr Who market is another that has been totally swamped with merchandise and the only safe bet there is very early items.
    Happy selling and buying

It's a blinding night out there again- plenty of buyers out again. However, I have radically changed my stock from what I was selling even a year ago and looking at the prices of some items i listed speculatively I will be ordering yet another completely different line of goods again to catch this market while it is hot.

AS for Dr Who, I remember the old days where anything with an official (or even unofficial) Dr Who logo on it would be snapped up for lots of money, it really is dead now though. The new fans only want the new Dr Who, they have little or no interest at all in original Who. Only 3 or 4 months ago I dumped all the classic Dr Who novels as they are now all 1p on Amazon and not selling- yet two years ago I'd have got at least a fiver each for them at a convention.

Shouldn't have dumped them. Their time will come round again. As for the old Dr Who not having any interest, it's ironic that you never see the original series marked down on DVD but the new series since 2005 are always cheap and marked down. Then again, I can't stand the new look Who. It's dreadful overproduced and heavily reliant on CGI.

I think the old Dr Who has had its day- my sons are huge fans of the new Who but won't watch more than a minute or two of vintage Who and it is teenagers and those in their 20s who have the buying power. I am in this to make money and whilst my first love is and always will be sci fi and cult items I won't hold onto a market out of nostalgia .

I still have a cupboard load of vintage Xena, Blake's 7 Star Trek etc and it has so little value that I just keep it out of fond rememberance. The last stuff I bought to sell on was some Captain Scarlet toys vintage but mint, I have yet to break even on that lot.

  • Their time may come but will yours? Seriously you need to move and adapt to the buying market, not to the market you want to sell for.

Sales are up for me, but I sell only 20-25% similar items to that of a year ago.

I could reminisce all day about past markets- I've been selling long enough to remember when Wedgwood Jasper ware actually sold, completely worthless market now.
