What has happened to Ebay ?

I'm the same, some of the things they buy there you'd think it was a tiny island with no access to anything.
Well..I'm terrible at Geography but...
Seriously though I still get emails thanking me for selling to them and telling me that they have wanted this item for ages but no other UK seller would send to Australia. I do think some people equate distance with problems, ie the further it has to go the dodgier the buyer. So they are happy to sell to Italy (which I have blocked) but not to Australia (which keeps me in holidays)I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I am with the OP, eBay is nothing like it used to be but I also have to say it is still the best on line selling place by far. If you have the right products, there is money to be made. The last couple of years it has slowed up a lot for me personally and the last 6 months I have seen some great bargains. My sales have gone down and I have stopped listing a lot of items as the repeat fees were mounting up to the point of eating into the profit. It is a buyers market at the moment with some great items out there. Happy hunting and selling.0

It is no different to selling to UK buyers. Probably the easiest way is still to list on ebay UK but offer overseas postage ( I would still block some of the African countries though ) , for full visibility you need to add your worldwide and European postage to the postage boxes when you list. Then when you get an overseas bidder they can see the postage without having to ask and when they win the invoice automatically picks up the correct airmail post.
In some weeks almost 75% of my sales are to non UK bidders.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. There will always be collectors out there. They will never go away. They just get it cheaper. What I don't understand is getting no bids at all. It's Autumn, things should be picking up.
To save me opening another thread, when I have re-listed some of my items that cost 10p (I always list with the same starting price) some others of the same price are being quoted at 15p. Why some and not others when they are the same starting price, category ? I have looked where this 5p hidden fee could be and can't see anything checked by mistake.0 -
And of course Ebay are right on the side of the buyer to the extent of being ridiculous but that's another story.0

Never heard of that happening, sounds like something must be wrong.

Here is an example. I have Dr Who stuff from the 70's, annuals, books etc. Dr Who has been revived with new interest from kids of today. Logicly the retro stuff should be in demand more so than it used to be. Not so, I remember Dr Who stuff selling for quite a bit of money 10 years or so ago. It doesn't make sense.:mad:0

Don't tempt me, you'll get a rant, but consumer law is largely on the side of the buyer as well so eBay can't afford to let the seller win.And of course Ebay are right on the side of the buyer to the extent of being ridiculous but that's another story.
The DSRs are coming in for auctions as well soon (within 2 years) so I would expect things to get worse rather than better."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4

Ten years ago we were in a period of sustained growth that lasted from 1992 to 2006. People don't buy pure collectables when they don't have disposable income; with all the assaults on the economy since 2007, I'd be surprised if people didn't spend their money on things they could use or play with (e.g. I help out at a wargaming fair and two years ago a trader completely sold out; we've had some good years at our horticultural show too) rather than on things they just look out. Here is an example. I have Dr Who stuff from the 70's, annuals, books etc. Dr Who has been revived with new interest from kids of today. Logicly the retro stuff should be in demand more so than it used to be. I certainly haven't bought many "useless" things recently; I have bought a couple in the last few weeks but certainly not as much as I have in the past."Well, it's election year, Bill, we'd rather people didn't exercise common sense..." - Jed Bartlet, The West Wing, season 4
