if she was buying the food herself she wouldn't be paying a premium for the food. Cats home food cost - £1 a meal, supplying food yourself = 35p a meal.

    Fair enough then.

When you were employed as an advocate, were the cat owners aware that your advice would be wholly based on an MSE thread?

    I like your business!

Some may argue your work as a Barista is equally as important as that of a Barrister.

Afterall, how would we all get through a whole day without our coffee :D
  • I have read some posts so appologies if Im repeating myself.

The cat company can keep the cats and charge, its called tresspass to chattels, and this is perfectly legal.

My advise would be to get a managable loan, for the payment, otherwise your cats will age and then when you get them they will be angry or have forgotten you.

Surley they would have been better off, when handing over the 2k , to have paid off the bill of 1 cat, and thus reducing the on-going costs by half.

  • Hi all again,

I'm not sue where my last post went, early this morning, but "go advance" had something to do with it!!

Just to clear up a couple of things, I am not getting paid. I am not an Advocate (legal sense, OED) as said "I am acting as advocate" (one who pleads the cause of another). I am indeed a friend to the person in trouble, who asked for help yesterday; Saturday, with the impending bill due to increase by £200 if it was not resolved by Monday. As the thread title suggested It is the weekend , all is closed, and I was after some general idea of where this would end.

    I got it.

    Thanks to all.

Then you should have said you were asking for a friend ;)

Hope they don't take too long getting the cats out, must be quite a while already!

  • Well I guess it could end in court as your friends have signed a contract and not done what was required of them.

I do understand what you are saying but I don't think anyone will be able to tell you what you want to hear. The council etc etc are really not going to care as the company involved haven't done anything wrong.

Your friends had 6 months to sort this out and didn't so the owners want their money and will not release the cats until the bill is paid in full. Of course that means the bill is going up but the owners are having to cover the cost of looking after the cats and also being responsible for any health issues or vets appointments. They are also unable to rent out that cage as the 2 over stayers are still in residence.

I think the best thing is that your friends throw themselves on the good graces of the cattery and see if they can work something out to help reduce the bill but making sure that it is done in a polite and calm manner.

Why? The OP said they were acting as an advocate, which seems perfectly honest. It doesn't make much difference to the story as to whether the person the OP is helping is their best mate or just someone they know, surely?

But it might well make a difference if they were being paid to act as a advocate and were seeking legal advice which was strongly implied in the opening post.
So my clients could not afford to pay up in full initially

Not a friend, not someone they know, but their clients.
