I think you should be comparing the interest rate on the overdraft versus that on the savings account. To be paying overdraft charges when you have the equivalent amount in savings is madness to me.
If you don't want to hand over three month's worth of rent I suspect you might be better off looking for another property.0 -

MY overdraft is up to £1k interest free. So it is not a problem for me dont you see?
I paid extra charges to have the account I operate so don't just generalise.0 -
I don't see the problem here. Either pay it or don't pay it. Personally I'd tell her to get stuffed and find somewhere else to rent.0

I would be more worried as to WHY the LL insists that a dehumidifier is used each time you cook. Especially if there is a window. And the EA statement that "she been round to check" sounds like a very nosy LL. Walk away while you can.
I have an extractor hood which is connect to outside but you can get the charcoal filter ones where there is no external connection.
I worked in letting for 7yrs - I'd go find something else. 3mths advance + deposit. LL wants 1/4 year rent in advance.0 -
2 good reasons to change your money management
1) overdraft probobly costs you more than you earn in savings
2) overdraft adversely affects your history in the eyes of some... eg landlords (rightly or wrongly)0 -

We use our overdraft every month, its interest free so theres no point moving money from savings if its not costing anything, would this mean a prospective landlord would think we couldnt handle our finances?
I 2nd this. A great deal of assumptions were made at the mention of overdraft use I suspect the LL is making that same assumption and hence the demands. If you've not fallen in love with it look for another.
I've never had a LL ask to see my bank statements and if they did I'd walk away....Proud to Be Dealing With My Debts! (Since July 2011;))0 -
Particularly given the problems you are having on your other post with this LL in respect of the white goods you want her to remove, I think this property does not sound like the right one for you.0

I agree. She seems to be a nightmare landlord. If she is so worried about condensation in the kitchen she should get an extractor fan fitted like most kitchens have.
If she is being so unreasonable before you have even agreed to rent the property, what is she going to be like when you are actually living there.
It really depends how desperate you are for the property, if you are then you will just have to cope with her.
Does she realise that your overdraft is interest free. If not, she needs to be told. You didn't say in your opening post that it is interest free which is by far the most important point.0 -

1) is incorrect, OP has stated that his/her overdraft is interest free up to £1000 and that s/he has never gone more than £1000 overdrawn.0
