Hello I didn't just put the money into anyones account, this is somwone I have worked with for 15years, he was helping me out, I phoned abbey national branch to say I've had a loan paid in and I want to buy a car, they said they don't hold that money in the branch and that I have to give 48hours notice to collect it and also I had to go to another branch as they won't let me collect the money from there , he was helping me out because he knew I wouldn't be able to get my car. When I bought the car I walked straight into a lloyds branch with the seller, the cashier asked him if he was selling something and they counted it and said that's fine its in your account so you can now hand over the keys to me.Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0

Whoever you saw at Santander was a total cretin if they literally said that they suspect you of money laundering (as opposed to "they're doing fraud and money laundering checks", which is something different).
The Proceeds Of Crime Act clearly says that a bank employee cannot say to someone that they or their organisation suspect them of money laundering. That is called "tipping off" and it carries a potential jail term.urs sinserly,

well today at santander takes the biscuit, got there early, told the lady had a client. I could already see another couple arguing with a manager over there appointment that they had been waiting 45mins and they had a appointment at 1200hours. I had to wait 20 mins so not a good start, sat down and explained and she was really shocked, she said i should never had to go through all this, and she phoned the security team only to be told that the hold was taken off last night, she checked my account and lo and behold it was! she was gobsmacked, i even borugh down the receipt for the car to fax over, just sat there and was speechless. I told her i'm leaving santander and moving everything over, she was apologetic and said that i should complain as something has gone fundementally wrong, it was just an ID check and that was that. I mentioned that they should not have informed me that it was money laundering check and she agreed that the guy should not have mentioned it. the hold is off but i will take this further. cant wait to move everything over and finally be shot of them. thanks to all who have offered help and advice.Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0

I had this with HSBC from a cheque from NS&I of all places!
However, they only compensated me with £10 because the branch gave me incorrect advice, I don't know what Santander are like with this though as HSBC gave me a day that it would be lifted, and it was.0 -

hi i'm just hoping they dont ask me to go there again, i dont think i could hold it in then... 4 times already with the same information I want 000's for the time its taken, the mornings off work i ve had to take to go and see them, the petrol, parking, worry for all the direct debits and standing orders that havent been paid, sooner or later my credit card will put a block because i cant even pay the minimum amount at the moment and they have said i need to do at least that. (i normally pay it off each month in full)Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0 -
this is amazing, and has left me speechless I cannot think of a more indadequate company. i phoned the local branch and customer services this morningand they have informed me that the hold is still on my account 9just one account now) and that I may need to go into a local branch!!!! I begged that this will be the fifth time and that i was only in the branch Saturday and i waited while the lady spoke to the security team on the phone right in front of me and then telling me it had been sorted. Now i have to wait another 48hours as the visit i did on the system hasnt been noted... took names etc but this is so frustrating, there is no one to talk to, i asked for the manager in my local branch but shes not been very helpful and she said she will ask someone to call the security team to advise whats going on. I dont know what to do and where to go, so far all 14 direct debits and standing orders have now failed I can see them on the statements, and its going to be a real mess to try to sort each one out as i dont know where i am with it all now.
I've drafted some bullet points because its on going and i'm losing track of the branch visits and conversation as i'm doing so many of them.

I noticed that my pending payments for my credit cards were showing as still pending I phoned customer services and they advised that they was a secuiryt hold placed on the account and I need to go to a branch to show some ID.

I went to my local branch at 9am on the Saturday, and provided some ID (passports, driving licence, debit card etc), Tom Sullivan at the Rayleigh branch then called the security team to ask them the issue, they advise that they wanted proof of the £14000.00 loan agreement from nationwide. As I wasn’t asked to bring this in I didn’t have any proof on me, so Tom asked me to go to nationwide over the road, and the nationwide manager wrote something out for me detailing the loan agreement I had with Nationwide. I too that back to Santander, and Tom advised that he will send that off but the security team need 48hours and he will call me on Tuesday 30th August as the 29th was a bank holiday.

Tom Sullivan at the Rayleigh branch DIDN’T call me back as promised and I called the customer services team on Thursday 1st September and spoke to a Saloni Sachdeva at Glasgow who advised that it wasn’t Santander’s fault and that the reason why payments hadn’t been made was that it was an issue at MBNA’s end!!! Which is quite ludicrous bearing in mind the problems I had before and you can imagine the frustration I
have no access to any of my money and I only hold accounts with yourselves so had no access to any other money and this lady is blaming everyone but Santander. I called the local branch and spoke to Susan and I was told I had to return to the Rayleigh Branch as the security team had not accepted the wrote out Statement from nationwide and that if I had a loan agreement in writing I need to bring this in. I went to the Local branch in the afternoon of the 1st and I queued up and provided all my ID including my loan agreement with nationwide, Susan photocopied everything I had and said she will send that over and it will take 48hours.

I received a Phone call Monday from my local branch to advise that the hold will remain on the accounts for 48hours and then I should be fine, no apology for the delays and the several trips to the branches.

I phoned my customer services and was advised that I need to go to my local branch and provide ID, when I informed them that I had already been into branch 3 times with the ID, of this they advised that it was a security measure and they cannot overrule it and that I should have been in store with my ID why they spoke to the security team and that the only way they would lift the account was that if I go to the branch. I phoned my local branch and managed to squeeze an appointment for 12.30hrs on the Saturday with Wendy.
10.9.11
I went into branch for an appointment with Wendy at 12.30, I sat down at wendy’s desk and Wendy called the security team only to be told that the hold was lifted on Friday afternoon and it was a wasted visit, Wendy checked my account on her computer and said sorry but its all working now. I check ed my account when I got home and it was still on hold, had to wait until Monday morning to talk to someone on customer services.
12.9.11
Tried my account today and the hold is still on my a&l account spoke to mark on 0845 6004388 extension 18068 who works in customer services who told me that account was still on hold and that I will need to be put through to security. Mark then advised that the account was still on hold and that the security team (Jamie) needs another 48hours and I should have been told the hold had been lifted, I phoned Carol the manager at the Rayleigh branch and she advised me that Gemma at the branch was on the phone to someone trying to sort the issue out.Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0 -
What a mad world we live in!
In the 'old days' we dealt with nothing 'but' cash, but now, if you handle over a certain amount you're accused of money laundering! I think in years to come, the government will stop us using cash altogether.
Sorry you had to go through all that.
