At present I have no broadband, only a 3G dongle. This means I have no wi-fi so can't access the net on the TP. I downloaded the necessary files in that blog but can't find a way of using them on the TP. I did mount the TP on my laptop and copied the files but can't figure out how to find them on the TP or am I stuck until I get my internet back up and running?

If your computer has Wi-Fi capabilities, you can use this free program to set up a local wireless network that shares the internet from your dongle. You can your touchpad online that way. It's pretty straightforward to set up; just make sure you set a password or anyone in range can connect.

EDIT: Rats, apparently I can't post links as a 'new user'. Go to www. connectify.me

At £249 this is far too expensive for a dead tablet.
Take a look on amazon at tablets, you can get them from £60 and they have android on them.
For around £200 you can get a pretty good android tablet (according to the reviews). And you won't have to try to "upgrade" it to android like you would with the HP.
If you can get one at around £89 - that may be worth the punt for such a good hardware spec.
Just wait a couple of months, ebay will be full of them for much less than they are now as people realise they have bought something that is more or less useless to them
What do you gain by having android? More apps? Most apps are just designed to make the big-screen web work on smartphone-sized screens. If you're using a tablet, why do you need, say the National Rail Enquiries official app? The website's free and works just as well on a tablet as it does on a laptop (compare and contrast, smartphones).

The Touchpad has a decent web browser, decent email client and decent ereader/pdf reader capabilities right off the bat - why pay a high price for a low-spec tablet? Compare and contrast: the advent vega. Android tablet for £200, excellent processor, very modifiable and I was all set to buy one until I saw one in the flesh and just could not stand the screen. And screens are where cheap tablets compromise, which means you need an expensive tablet, and even at £250 the TouchPad is £80 cheaper than the next reasonable alternative, the Xoom.

Besides, if I had a pound for every time I've read someone saying they bought the Touchpad hoping to turn it into an Android tablet but fell in love with webOS instead... I'd have about £8. But that's still £8 :)

when did you order and did you opt for standard delivery? when was the money taken? was it delivered via RM or courier?
  • I've contacted them and apparently my order is in the warehouse awaiting delivery via Yodel and I will get a tracking number once dispatched.
