Is this high mileage?

I'm looking for a small car and have spotted a Citroen C1 for sale. It is taxed and mot'd till April next year, recently serviced, tidy body work, all the papers etc are with it, but it does have almost 100,000 on the clock. It has also had a new clutch. One owner too. Price is reasonable too and relects the mileage.

I need a car and need it to last me about 4 years, till I replace it. (Or longer!)

Any thoughts or advice appreciated.

I bought my Mondeo with 90k on the clock. 4 years later its on 158k with not a lot having gone wrong with it.

If the C1 is like my car doing decent length journeys instead of just short round town ones, has been regularly serviced and repairs done when needed and not when they could be afforded, it should do another 50k or more fairly easily.
  • To be honest, 100k is not a lot for a modern car, it has had a new clutch so that's one major worry out of the way, if it has been serviced when it should then I wouldn't be too concerned if the price is right, one thing though, check if the timing belt has been replaced recently as at 100k it must have been either done recently or nearly due check age and mileage intervals for this.
I hate football and do wish people wouldn't keep talking about it like it's the most important thing in the world

Run away! Six figure mileages are OK for most modern cars, but a little eurobox, built down to a price is on the slippery slope of being an expensive, unpleasant to drive junker.

Is it very, very cheap? If so I'd be tempted, if not then just buy one with a lower mileage. A little car like that would be hard to shift with high miles so I'd expect to be saving about a grand over other examples

    Hi

It is £2495, whereas lower mileage ones are £3495. I think it is reasonable for the price, but am scared in case it breaks!!

Any second hand car can break. If the one you are looking at is clean and has plenty of history it will be worth a look - the engine and gearbox are from Toyota and have been around for decades.

Sounds around the right price to me then, if it's in good condition and has had the relevant work done on it at the right time as per the manufacturers reccommendations then go for it, buy it and run it into the ground.

Even if it was to die at say 150-180k (pretty unlikely really) a replacement engine should come in at less than the additonal cost of getting a lower mileage example

    Thanks you.

I only drive about 10000 a year so the car would be looking at a bit of a rest!

Will go and have a look around it tomorrow.

    Thanks again
