I can't match that picture to any part of the SGS-II circuitry:

Not that it's an easy task, it could just be me missing it.
  • Hi all following this - yesterday we received a packet through the post with the phone in it in basic wrapping. We were confused by the repair ticket inside filled in with someone elses details and stating they were on Tesco Mobile.

My first thought was Oh no, they've sent the wrong phone back. Obviously it wasn't repaired, there wasn't any paperwork to say it was. When I got home, I asked my wife about it. Then I said "You have tried switching it on?" She had but nothing. I said "You have tried plugging it in?" (I wasn't being condescending - just thinking aloud! lol) She said she hadn't because there was no indication it had been looked at.

I checked the IMEI and it was the same phone. And yes switching it on did nothing. Then I plugged it in and it showed me a warning the battery was 100% flat. Then it started charging.

I pressed the power button and it booted up!!!!!! :D:D:D:D

What the heck?! This was the same IMEI phone that Carphone Warehouse had told me was A) water damaged B) couldn't be repaired C) even if they did fix the damaged area, the damage would continue to carry on D) wasn't covered by any free repair warranty as it was water damaged!! The CPW repair photos "show" it was rusted so obviously the Samsung engineers must have "seen" the same damage???

What the hell is going on here? In shop we were told there was nothing we could do but buy a new phone! And yet here we are with a repaired phone for free! Does CPW get its kicks like this? "You've water damaged your phone, so unless you want to look an idiot for paying £35 a month for the next 2 years for a £10 phone, pay another £500 for a new phone"??

    Any thoughts?

Theoretically, there is a possibility that it a different phone with the IMEI changed by Samsung.
However, much more likely this is yet another proof of my theory about incompetent and unscrupulous 'engineers' at CPW.
