how much does the value of a car increase with a new MOT

Slight problem here
Looking at a V5C (Registration Document) Section 7 "Changes to current vehicle"
Clearly states that the tax class shown in Section 4 can only be changed when taxing. Please apply at your local DVLA.
IF OP taxes, local DVLA sends away the V5C it may take 4-6 weeks for replacement to arrive, may prove difficult to sell without V5C
Changing taxation class we do it frequently, never had a problem
Steve
i've been told by DLVA (on a phone call), the new owner can use forms V10 and V62 , along with MOT and insurance at a local post officesmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

You may have been told that................................
But as SteveJW has said, it has to be changed at a local DVLA office. If the car is currently licensed they will need to take that as well.
It is printed on the form V62 'You cannot use this form to tax your vehicle at Post Office Branches'

sorry my mistake, when i phoned, i made a note of the forms and downloaded them, printed them off, with the intention of giving them to the buyer, but didnt read them myselfsmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

the issue here, is that the temp insurance expires in 2 weeks,
so i either change the taxation and get a new tax disc for 6 months
or change it to SORN and move it onto my front drive - substituting my own car
as the car is part of my late mothers estate i have to weigh up whether the cost of insurance/tax disc purely to keep the car on the road ready to be sold, outweighs selling the car ASAP
hence one of the original questions asking whether mot/tax increases the value of a car when sellingsmile --- it makes people wonder what you are up to....

It certainly makes it more 'sellable' if it is licensed & MOT'd, but as you say, is the cost of getting the licence and renewing the insurance going to to be reflected in the price?0

Correct , I tried to tax a ( new to me ) car at the post office last week but had to go to the DVLA because the car was previously on disabled tax.0 -
We have just changed a car from disabled tax, it really isn't difficult.
Yes you have to go to a DVLA office - find your nearest here http://www.dft.gov.uk/dvla/contactus/localoffices/findnear.aspx
Take the V5 (C) with you, along with a completed V10. Don't forget you need to take a valid insurance certificate for it too - you'll have to insure it in your name of course.
You may need to fill in a V62, to register the car in your name - altho I wouldn't unless you HAVE to, as it adds another owner into the history.
You get the new tax disc immediately, and you can then go ahead and sell the car, you don't have to wait for the new V5 to arrive. Our new registration document arrived 18 days after I'd applied for it. I don't think it takes 4 to 6 weeks anymore.
Personally, if you don't need to sell the car immediately, I'd MOT and re-tax it, and then ask a good price for it. However, if you need to get the money from it quickly, then don't bother, just shift it for whatever you can get (also applies if it's not worth very much anyway - say less than £1500 ?? )I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -
op, just go along to your local dvla office and change the taxation on the logbook, its pointless taxing it because when your temp insurance expires in 2 weeks you will have to sorn the car and return the tax unless you pay out more cash for more insurance.Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0

You can't "just go along to your local dvla office and change the taxation on the logbook " without either paying for tax there and then, or declaring SORN.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.0 -

as the disabled owner has died the tax disc is void anyway so the car should be on a sorn now, if the op goes to the dvla and changes the taxation then it will make it easier to sell the car even if it is on a sorn, there is no need to pay out more expense on tax and insurance if the car is to be sold anywayBe Alert..........Britain needs lerts.0
