I'm sure staying up past her bedtime wouldn't hurt for one night,

No doubt her teachers would be extremely happy to have a crabby 5 year old in the class due to a lack of sleep - or are you suggesting that the OP teaches her daughter that it ok to bunk off school when she feels like it at this early age?

I wouldnt take her.. they finish too late for a small child to be up until.. even as a one off.. plus getting in and out of these venues is manic... plus unless you put her on your shoulders she wont be able to see anything once adults stand up in front.. I cant see any good points to taking a 5 y/o to a concert.. but then my 5 y/o wouldnt even know who they are.. (my 9 y/o doesnt!)

I am sure there are things she would get a whole lot more benefit from.. like toys or a bike or something more suited a 5 y/o than a 15 y/o

Turn it in - you don't even know if its at a weekend or an afternoon performance. I agree with your original post that they are too young but not for those reasons
  • Disney on ice or similar would be far more appropriate IMO
  • IMO 5 is way too young to go to a concert. i wouldnt waste your money and get her the DVD of the concert.

Apart from the blindly obvious reason(s) as to why it is a stupid idea to take her, wouldn't it finish way after her bedtime?

    Jeezo...... what a killjoy!

Parents are allowed to occasionally treat their kids and make exceptions to the normal rules on special occasions you know!

Here comes the killjoy - but i would advise against taking a 5 year old to a concert on the volume & potential hearing damage front. Even mime artists with dancing (such as most pop acts) have INCREDIBLY loud music for a relatively sustained period of time, while it's not considered "dangerous" it can lead to negative effects, particularly in cases where it's younger ears, however you're not 100% sure you won't get landed next to a screaming 15 year old girl who thinks JLS are the most gorgeous males in existance. For gigs i wouldn't really suggest anyone younger than 10 be allowed to go on those grounds, but that's just my natural caution mixed with too many years of playing drums & going to gigs without consideration for my ears - that's not much fun!

Besides that, do you really think a JLS concert is suitable content for a 5 year old girl, bearing in mind this is a group amonst their many marketing ploys which has branded condoms - i wouldn't really think they'll be the milk & cookies band myself!

I took my 11 year old daughter to see JLS earlier this year. We had seats but stood for the entire show, no-one sits down. It's a 30 min drive for us to get back, and it was after midnight by the time we actually got home. I agree that it's fine for one night to let your child stay up but feel that 5 (and only just 5) is far too young for this type of night out. The noise was incredible, not from the music but from the screaming girls, my ears were ringing for days afterwards. Some girls screamed constantly from the minute they came on, also, i'm not convinced that they were singing live all the time either, not that your daughter will care !! My daughter really enjoyed it, i didn't, but she couldn't have gone alone ! I think buying the DVD is a much better idea.
  • Personally I wouldn't do it. Everone else has told you the reasons why already. The major factor for me would be the noise (of the music and the stupid people screaming their heads off all through the thing), speaking as someone who went to a lot of gigs when they were younger and now has tinnitus. If you are going make sure you at least get her earplugs or some kind of protection.
