This will work. You have to follow the instructions to the letter or it won't work.
I think you were a bit mean to Tony, though."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -

I think there must be a data bar on the SIM (like my son). Contact them using the link in the bit below. Honest, they do fix it quick.I've entered all the settings and it still doesn't work...
If everything is correct but you still can't access the internet and you've activated your sim recently then there could be a data bar on your account. All sims are now sent out semi activated with data barred so you can check the signal strength before you activate and top up. This data bar is normally removed automatically after activation but occasionally will need an agent to do it manually. Contact an agent by clicking here or you might find it is quicker to create a new post in the forum as the agents monitor the forum closely."If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." -- Red Adair0 -
I had a similar problem when i bought my htc wildfire.
I am with tesco mobile so i bought the phone for o2 network the phone i bought was unlocked but in the phone shop they put in a o2 sim to register the phone.
When i then put my tesco sim in i too could not connect to the mobile internet, I also tried various settings which failed in the end i did a full restore and after this i was able to connect to the internet.0 -

Pimento,
You could very well be right about the data bar, however she (assumed) doesn't seem to grasp adding or changing the APN settings.
Even from the posts, there appears to have been no linkage made between the network settings (and subsequent sub menu for Access Point Name) - but hey, I'm a moron and a troll...so what would I know...0 -
Being a woman of a certain age, I do have some sympathy for the OP. These days, it's expected (by me, at least) that things 'just work'. When setting up is required it can be really confusing. Even my 19 year old had to get me to sort it out in the end. What I had but he didn't, was patience.

I managed to get it to work
in the APN giffgaff didnt show and I tried many times
only when I allowed wireless the installed that giffgaffAPN app as stompa posted did it show. I then applied the info above and finally works it must had done something to allow giffgaff to show up in apn
You shouldnt have to install app though to get 3g to work.
I am not stupid I am not into phones but I have built pcs many times (currently pc I built from parts from scan) and been into computers since 1981 and have city and guilds in computers so I am not stupid
Thanks all
PS wouldnt mind but mobile isnt mine its oh, I hate mobiles. I didnt through it in bin it was a figure of speech as I was frustrated with trying since yesterday nor as am inpatient as implied0 -
Believe it or not, this Moronic Troll is genuinely pleased that the OP is sorted.
These phones are mini computers ('000s of times more powerful than my first computer, a Commodore PET!), and sometimes things take a little patience and instructions need to be followed to the letter to get them to behave as they should.0 -
Tony said he's glad you're sorted.
