Managed to find more stock yesterday in a Posh shop that's clearing out stuff. £69 worth of Lingerie (69 x £1) My first lot of 10 items made £30. So happy with that..... Valentines day approaching, so hopefully that may help. :D It was really funny watching these shop assistants (bearing in mind it's a posh independent outfitters) putting it all through the till.
There was other stuff there for £5 down from £50, but where do you stop? Should I buy everything?????
I once bought a posh skirt suit reduced from £239 to £10, but it was unsold on eBay (starting price about £20) so I gave it to my mum for Christmas. I did make a little money from clothes from Littlewoods' closing down sale, bought for 50p each and sold for various prices from about £2-£14 (most about £3-5), but unfortunately I was very short of money when the sale was on, so was able to buy only a few items.

I was wondering if anyone on the forums actually makes a decent income from selling on ebay? I am considering selling a few product types on ebay and scouting around for suppliers/wholesalers, so if anyone has any advice it would be appreciated.... oh and feel free to PM.

If you can find a wholesaler/supplier online, you can be sure plenty of others have before you. One possible exception to this is finding manufacturer's websites that are only in their own (non-English) language.

I make my living from (mainly) ebay. I sell products I know about, and it's not stuff that everybody and his dad would want. It's also not the run of the mill clothing and the like that Joe Bloggs would think of selling. I make enough that my wife could quit her job just before Christmas to give me a hand. We'll make enough this tax year that'll mean we pay some tax, but we won't turn over enough that we'll need to register for VAT. That means our margins have to be good, and they are.

If you're going to sell to make real profits on ebay, make sure you're selling items you know a lot about, be it through your work, profession or a hobby. Make sure your listings look professional, the spelling's accurate, and that they're similar to each other, if possible, so buyers come to recognise your listings.

Don't be blinkered though, as if a good opportunity comes up, you want to grab it in both hands if you can.

Finally, give bloody good service. If you tell someone you're going to do something, do it, and do it when you say you will, if not before.

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Anyone know any good suppliers of ex highstreet clothing - overstocks where they cut or deface the tags? I've ordered from a few wholesalers but I'm struggling to find more, it's not for Ebay btw :)

Yep. Just cos it's cheap that does not mean it will make a lot. Some of the undies I bought retail at £38. I was lucky to get one bid on it at "1.99. But with postge still trebled my money, so I have to think small.

I did get a Hermes tie from the charity shop for 50p. They sell on e-bay for up to £50 used. I bet mine will reach £3.
The stupidest thing I sold was vouchers for the Sun newspaper. Free in the post and I got £7 for them, they were only redeemable for £11 and that was if you bought every paper.

Can I please just make a polite reminder of the following rule, posts asking for PMs or other contact details will/have been removed:

    EXCHANGING PERSONAL DETAILS

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: For legal reasons I have to discourage swapping, buying and selling on the forum (please see this rule). While it can be a very useful way of saving money it relies on a certain amount of trust between members and as such can cause problems (and has in the past). If you have any questions about this policy please email abuse@moneysavingexpert.com.

    Thank you

My hubby had a Hermes tie I bought him for about 50p, which he wore a few times then sold on ebay, but it wasn't in great condition (a few pinholes and pulled threads) so it only sold for 99p.
  • My 12-year old has decided she wants to be a millionaire .. by next week if possible .. she asked me how she can get a job!!!!

So, I told her that if she helps me clear out all our old junk and put it on e-bay and then helps with the packing and sending off etc that I'll share the profits with her.

So far this weekend she has devised a spreadsheet to log our progress and I've taught her lots of excel tricks to calculate our final profit. She's gained an understanding that there are hidden costs. She's helped type up the adverts - spell checking etc. She's researched our items compared with other similiar stuff to work out a good start price etc.

So ... I reckon even if we don't make a penny it's been a really valuable experience all round - and it's made us clear out our cupboards ... she's working out how best to invest her share of the profits (£9 each so far!!!) - and want's a lesson on interest rates tonight after school so she can work out the best place to invest!!!

So even if I only make the £9 I've got at the moment I'll be very happy!!!!!!:D

Paid 50p for it, sold it for £23.99. Not bad....
