Tax credits

58.08 paid into my account this morning instead of 102.02 for two children.

Son 16 staying on in 6th form and it seems no matter how many times I have rung tax credits to get told it will carry on as normal, they neglected to say it will stop.

I started to get a hint from other posts saying the same over last few days that there was a possibility it would cease, but why do tax credits just say yes it will carry on as normal for me to have to ring them once more.

So son off to six form today and they have lopped of his money. Annoying as son is enrolled, do they think for whatever gap it is that he suddenly forgets to eat or us giving him school money stops.

Lucky enough have a bit of emergency money, but hope this does not go on for long.

HI i am in exactly the same situation. my 16yr old daughter has gone off to college for her first day today, and what do you know ctc has stopped her payment!! i have also spoke to them twice about this and also when i informed child benefit, they said that they would also inform ctc!!!!

dont know what they are playing at!!
  • I'm in the same situation also. Telephoned Tax Credits beginning of June. When I called them, they told me it will start back up again after the 1st Sept, but couldn't give me a definate date. What's the point in notifying them if it's going to stop?
  • Right no panic, for some reason my notification of start for son had not been accepted by system, so gent from tax office was able to promptly sort that and the payment goes in tommorow with normal from next week.

In fact the ammount tommorow is more thane expected and a one off payment equivalant to more than one week tax credits for both kids and then it increases by couple of pounds a week.

So if yours dropped today, probably worth a call if at least have not received anything tommorow and either ring today for reassurance or tommorow and it should be soon sorted like mine:T

Gent was lovely and said getting lots of similar calls, so sorted hopefully:D
  • OW just realised at some point cut my big toe, irrelevant but OUCH OUCH :(
  • There were quite a lot of posts on this subject this time last year.

I myself had a 16 year old who continued in education and although I rung tco in June to inform them of this my payments were interupted at the beginning of September nad when I called tco to query this I was informed that regardless of the fact that I had told tco back in June that my Daughter was remaining in education it was still my responsibility to call back at the end of August to confirm this!

My payments were only "wrong" fro one week though so not all bad.
The loopy one has gone :j
  • The same thing has happened to me. I rang last week, to be told "don't worry, you will get the money back next week"
I rang to double check today and was told something different "you will get your normal money on Friday, but the backdated money will be spread over the next year" so I have lost a large amount of money but will get it back at less than a pound a week!
How can two people say different things?

I'm fuming. It's really thrown me, as I had to borrow money last week when I was short.

OOh thats not nice, cant understand the difference either. You could double check and ring again, I am on disability benefits just in case its a benefit issue. Hope you get to bottom of it:)
  • Just sorted and son has been offered college, so gone to school today and got better offer at college, so know I will have to ring again in few days when hes got it in writing to change address of establishment. ;)
  • i'll ring again tomorrow and I bet I get a different answer :(
  • I had £100 missing from mine last week (single mum so lost the single parent element as well), and have had £16.96 paid in today
I get paid on a Friday, so will be interesting to see what goes in tomorrow!
