Ryanair are scum!

I really need advice!

I booked some flights from Madrid to London back in July for this weekend. At the time they were only around 80 euros.

I went to check-in online today however my booking wasn't going through. So I rang Ryanair who told me that the payment had failed therefore i would have to make a brand new booking. I queried why they never informed me that the payment had failed and they said it was my responsibility to contact them when the email never came through. Obviously the flight prices have now increased hugely however I've had to go ahead with a new booking.

Usually I would have noticed on my online banking that the money hadn't come out, however my friend made the payment for me on her credit card as a favour because i did not have enough in my account and the cheaper price was due to expire that day.

Do i have rights in this situation or am I doomed?!

Great first post, (welcome to M.S.E)

in response to your last line

"Do i have rights in this situation or am I doomed?!"

not sure what your expecting, but its your fault, no confirmation email means no flights

    your doomed
  • But do companies not have an obligation to inform you if a payment has failed? Especially if the fault is at their end?

    Thought as much :-(

Companies don't have a legal obligation to inform you.

Although you would think they would do it out of courtesy.
Of course, I may just be talking b****cks!

You got the title right. RyanAir are scum. Bet the phone call to RyanAir cost you a fortune too.
  • wonka is right unfortunately.

The best thing you can do is now not give them the business, if at all possible, but it sounds like you have booked again with them. If not, do advise from / to and when so we can see if we can find an alternative.
  • I have already searched and unfortunately, out of the two airlines (Ryanair and Easyjet) it was the much cheaper of the two. By not booking or going with Easyjet, I would have been shooting myself in the foot.

:-( Just going to have to suck it up and move on, but my god do i HATE Ryanair!!!
  • When you made the booking did you get the confirmed status page, to print out? My last booking with Ryanair, i printed this page, but did not get the usual confirmation email, so i logged into manage my bookings to make sure that it was booked, which it was, but if you don't get the confirmed status page or email, you should have contacted them, or rebooked, at that stage, sorry that you ended up paying more, but like you said it was still the cheapest option, I have always been happy with the price i paid on Ryanair, and as long as you comply with the rules regarding hand luggage etc, find them very competitive.

Unfortunately in my life I have come up against "scum" on a few occasions. From then on I avoided them like the plague. The fact that you have chosen to continue your relationship with "scum" for the sake of a few pounds says a lot about you.
    Something Really Interesting

. . . and of course you gave the £80 immediately to your friend who did you the favour & the friend was happy not to let you know that payment had not gone OUT of their own account. If this was paid in July that friend would surely have had a credit card bill by now!!
  • @madelaine - it went through to the normal itinerary page however it does not say confirmed. My own fault for seeing something familiar but not reading it properly! I agree, they are extremely competitive, I've never had a problem with them before. But i guess this is how they make their money....

@brodev - I'm not sure this says anything about me other than i am sensible with my money. Cancelling the trip or going with Easyjet would have cost me double which may only be a few pounds to some people but is a lot of money for me.

    @cashbag - she's a genuine friend - just a scatty one!
