You look as though you messed up, you were darn lucky that ebay let you off with the larger FVF that you owed them.
If you want to stick to your principles that's fine but it doesn't look as though you'll be selling on your ebay account again anytime soon.
If you do use another account by not going through with transactions then you will soon lose that one as well when you get neg FB & low stars.
Gumtree buyers, are they similar to people who wish to use the services of ebay as a selling platform but not pay what they owe for the service?
It seems that it's you who don't understand, so keeping on emailing ebay isn't going to make them change their rules for you.
If you want to sell on ebay, then when someone wins & pays you send the item, you don't then pick & choose who you'll post to.
Maybe try freeads, adtrader, local facebook pages.
  • OK. Item 1 - the abusive buyer - due to the abuse & him trying to change the terms (he admitted he'd bidded more than he had wanted to so therefore didn't want to pay the postage, so was trying to get me to send it for free (large heavy item would have cost £9+ with courier + packaging costs)). I refused to send for free, told him he knew the postage costs involved before bidding so his fault not mine. He went on to 'shout' and swear at me calling me names etc. I told him I wouldn't be selling to him or entering into any further conversation with him and proceeded to apply to cancel the sale. He refused this so ebay told me I couldn't cancel it. Eventually they did when I refused to pay the fees.

Item 2 - The winning bidder didn't pay, I emailed him a few times, gave him plenty of chance. Opened a cancellation of sale request giving the reason of non-payment. The bidder never responded and it also looks as though he has not been on the site since. After the allotted time I went back to it to close it and had a response from ebay saying that as there had been no response from the buyer I had to continue the sale to him and therefore my charges still stood. I've spoken to them on numerous occasions via email and they still believe that I sold the item to the original bidder despite me requesting cancellation of sale due to non-payment. Is this not a non-payment report?

If I work in a shop/restaurant/pub and a customer is abusive to me I will not continue to serve them, I apply the same rules on ebay.

wrt to the abusive purchaser his feedback shows that I am not the only person (buyer or seller) that he is rude to. He has a lot of neg feedback for his abuse and anyone who gives him neg feedback is responded to with abuse and name-calling.

  • Sounds like you have done a mutual cancellation request rather than a non paying bidder dispute which is why you didn't get your fees back.

Got to agree with this, wrong disputes opened, should not have asked to cancel either sale.
Item 1:Sale price agreed at auction end, should reply to email along lines of "sorry postage has been calculated at item weight no room for reduction."
Instead of cancellation request should of started non paying bidder dispute.

    Item 2: Definite NPB
Opened a cancellation of sale request giving the reason of non-payment. The bidder never responded and it also looks as though he has not been on the site since. Not a NPB dispute sorry,as these are your mistakes for not using correct dispute procedures I think you should pay up and read up on disputes for future.
There's some good advice on this very site.

I have no idea. Not familiar with ebay complaint procedures. I seem to remember them saying something along the lines of because the winning bidder didn't reply then there was nothing they could do and therefore I was still liable.

AS per other responses I suspect from that message that you opened a mutual cancellation and not an NPB- in which case you are not due your fees back if buyer responded incorrectly.

Without a paypal account you cannot sell on ebay so closing it in a temper has not helped. Also if you use someone elses account then it will be associated with you and that will be suspended as well as you are not allowed to trade using a different account if suspended already.

Unfortunately eBay have their own rules. Most customers are not abusive off their own bat; quite often it's a failure to communicate wisely, and given how "principled" you're being here it may be that they made a reasonable request that you took the wrong way. Most shops and restaurants - the one I worked in particularly - make customer satisfaction a priority and would by the same token come down hard on anyone that lost them a sale.

Any advice woud be greatly appreciated, thanks.

Should read "anyone who replies agreeing that I shouldn't pay is greatly appreciated"

You've had the advice, you're just not listing. Pay the 2 quid and move on, you are cutting your nose off to spite your face
