natwest select silver account

The account literature states that it comes with a visa debit card, which it does. Whether or not its the purple or blue card is down to your credit score. I only know of the difference in the cards because I have both, and from what I have read on the forums. It used to be easier to differentiate between them as the purple card was a cheque guarantee card, but this is no longer the case, and to be honest, I dont really see any point in having the different cards now as most transactions are authorised at the point of sale anyway.
I don't think account holders are being conned, as when you apply for the account, you get paperwork telling you what facilities the bank is willing to give you, its up to you whether or not you accept it. The leaflet that comes with the card tells you that can't use it offline, if it starts with the numbers 4751 27/28Debt free and staying that way! :beer:0 -
A Purple debit card is deemed as a credit product (as they could allow you to go overdrawn) so they would be issued subject to status.
Have to be honest in my little humble opinion now the Cheque Guarantee Scheme has ended I dont see the point in issuing two different card types.Im an ex employee RBS GroupHowever Any Opinion Given On MSE Is Strictly My Own0 -

I'm really enjoying telling certain new & existing customers that for £8pm they can use any ATMs.0

So in affect theyre making that silver select an upgraded version of the basic account? Shocking.
We should have left them to go bust
In short, yes. There are two versions though - one that offers facilities and a restricted one that Key/Basic account holders can convert to.
At least customers are left with an option to choose the Select Silver. I don't see why though, for complete transparency, Royalties Gold could not be offered in the same way.0 -
just two versions ? i think thats too simplistic. I think theres more than two depending on your credit status.
i was never a basic/step account holder i applied and got the natwest select account upgraded to silver but without a chequebook and overdraft. If i downgraded to just the select account again i would still have access to all ATM. I have since received a chequebook. thus far i'm happy with natwest but i don't have much history with them.
edit i read your post again chambta your point is about the silver account not the basic/select account
all very confusing well for me anyways lol0 -

Don't worry. Some branch staff aren't with it yet.0 -
OK, I'm not picking on you other than I think you are informed on the topic.
Why should "Select" or (especially) "Select Silver" customers "have to ask"? I can see nothing in the product information which implies that the Select product range "Visa Debit" card is anything other than the "purple".
The "Basic Account visa debit card" guide doesn't even mention the restriction (though it is mentioned as a FAQ in the Visa Debit pages).
If what is being reported isn't just a "temporary misunderstanding", ISTM account holders on Select or Select Silver (or upgrading to, even from Step, and even if a cheque book and/or overdraft was not requested) are being "conned" if not being issued with "purple". This may an advertising standards issue.
Account holders in the situation (as you suggest) should ask for "purple", and if declined raise a bank and/or advertising standards complaint.
Unless any bank facing posters can convince me I'm wrong.
Surprisingly you are wrong.
With a select account there is two types of cards the same as the current account had - one which is purple which replaces the chq guarantee card and blue which is full auth.
For basic account holders the card is still blue but has ATM restrictions in place.
I understand your response is likely to be "can you point me to this in the literature" but it isn't in there. I know this is how it is so you can either believe me or not but your comments on advertising standards are ridiculous and another unfounded conclusion you have made.0 -
Thanks for clearing up willo0
