I'm happy to withdraw unfounded remarks which have been "made up". Please post some examples.
  • thanks for the replies everyone i'm in no hurry for the purple natwest card at the moment if i need to use a card on the train i use my credit card it does mean i have to make multiple transfers to it thought but its not a big hastle. Perhaps after christmas i'll pop in to my local branch and ask but an overdraft isn't what i'm looking for knowing they might offer me one is always welcome though. Just after opening my select account back in june i asked via my online account to be sent a cheque book but it said i would have to contact telephone banking or go to my local branch to ask for this service. So i think something has changed.

On both occasions when i went into my local branch to open my account in june and then to upgrade it to the silver in august i saw the same woman and she remembered my details job partner holiday plans etc so maybe she had something to do with it too i also opened a first reserve savings account on the same day. so perhaps its all those put together along with the way i'm conducting the account thats led to this.

Why do you have to make "multiple transfers" to your credit card? Normally one payment a month suffices.
  • because the credit card limit is quite small thats why a purple natwest card would be ideal.

Jalexa, the cost of public transport these days would stretch many credit card limits!

Indeed, or are you being ironic? I was only trying to establish the reason for the OP's explanation. Regardless, my advice is general advice for the OP and for others.

If a credit card limit is inadequate for day to day spend, perhaps the best course of action is to request an increase. An "affordability" calculation will only support one amount of credit whether it be on a credit card or on an overdraft. The Natwest account (and a "purple" card) will not bring "new money". I would say focus all credit efforts on the credit card, the spending and payment history of which would appear to indicate that a higher limit is in order (and "affordable").

And if it is a "basket case card" with £200 say, maybe its time to test the waters with another card? The OP posted that the "Select account opened in June" was "the first bank account in 8 years". That could certainly explain a "basket case credit card" wih a small limit, but the OP has (since June) had a current account reporting to the CRAs. So better placed to talk "credit card".

Probably yes. More likely they wanted to charge you a monthly fee.:)

What has a monthly fee got to do with the cheque book? Unfounded comment.

But not as ideal as an increased limit on your credit card. See my earlier post.

I have to point out the risk you run with your Select account, whether "free" or "fee paying" Silver, and in particular with a "purple" card.

Unauthorised overdrafts are charged at £6/day. A big step from having had no account for 8 years. I'm guessing from your logon name, having experienced and got-over difficult times.

Think of the advantages of the true "Basic" account which does not levy "unauthorised overdraft" daily charges.
  • Guys

What are the differences between the blue card and purple card ?

I currently have a blue one...
  • Ive just contacted Natwest using the telephone number provided above... and spoke to a lady.

She said its pot luck as to what colour card you get and you can use the blue card on trains / petrol pumps as long as you have a current plus account with the said card.

NB. I have a 2 credit cards with natwest .. a platnium and classic.. and i have the blue debit card...
