HMV Purehmv points card - WARNING

Today I have sent this complaint to HMV

"On Saturday I purchased a Nintendo DS game for my daughter priced £14.99 at your X store in Northern Ireland.
Whilst at the till, the cashier very casually said he was going to include a purehmv card which he said would mean I would get loads of points which I could use to get free stuff. As I was with 3 children, and slightly distracted, it wasnt until I got home that I realised this card had cost me £3.00. I looked at the literature with the card, but it was completely unclear exactly what I had got for my money. Thismorning I have logged onto your page and registered my card to see what I can get with the 1799 points I have collected that cost me an additional £3.00. It would appear that actually I can get nothing, unless I spend over a further £22.00 with yourselves, and then the small list of things I could get are things like a posted of Pink, or spend a further £17 or more to get a poster of Neil Tenant. I am angry that I was duped into buying a card, when the likes of Boots or Tescos give their cards away for free, and there was no indication that this would be any different.
I would like to ask for my money back and for you to remove my registration to your so called rewards club that offers nothing I want, for a substantial extra outlay by myself. I would also ask that your staff are trained more carefully to clearly explain the cost of the card and what you get in return, and also that your counter literature and promotion is much clearer that there is a cost involved."

Anyone else been duped into this card which actually costs money?
Im knitty, Im nutty, but I dont know anyone called Nora. :p

Nope, they have another tactic in certain stores of charging you £3 to pre-order a game with an hmv pure card too, amongst other things. The rewards scheme is absolutely shocking, zero value in it whatsoever - be warned, the points only have a 2 year limit too - but if you're really miffed about it, i'd suggest either e-mailing their head office or going back into store to complain directly to the manager.

I made the mistake of buying one of these cards. I suppose they might be of use to someone who doesn't mind paying over the odds for things you can get cheaper elsewhere, and spending £1000's to build up points to get anything half decent. > insert sarcasm smiley<

I did manage to get some transformer stickers for my lad, they were just about the only thing I had enough points for, and they were due to expire. Shame they weren't even for the latest film.

  • Oh dear, sorry you had similar experiences, but am sort of glad its not just me as I am usually quite savvy and felt a bit foolish over this one. I have emailed complaints, but if I dont get a reply in 24 hours I will ring the manager of the store - unfortunately its not a store or direction of town that I would normally be in so not easy to return, but I will pursue this as I think its shocking.

What i find hillarious is the likes of posters etc which you can BUY for £4 in the shop and they require you to have built up about £50 of a spend, more about gathering spending habbits methinks than actually rewarding the average customer.

I got the card last year when I`d purchased an ipod.. and funnily enough put it at the back of my mind until a couple of months ago when my daughters favourite band were doing a signing at HMV in Birmingham.

To get wristbands to meet the band, we would have had to get there for 730am and then hang around birmingham all day until the meeting at 5:30.

But then on further inspection, I found that for 5000 points, we could `buy` wristbands with our points!

Worked out great for me .. just keep the card, use it whenever your in HMV and maybe one day it`ll have something that you really want!

Anyone who wants you to pay for a loyalty card obviously doesn't expect you to be that loyal!
    Squirrel!
If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.

I paid for my Body Shop card and I get two £5 gifts and a £10 gift, not to mention 10% off every purchase. It's paid for itself. I guess some loyalty cards are better than others.

Ive heard of the hmv card and so glad ive not signed up, thanks for the warning. Good luck with the refund. The assistant should tell you how much the card would cost.
  • Do people still shop in HMV???

I see all of their stores dissappearing soon...
