I'll pay you an hours labour to come change the timing belt on my wife's FTO. It'll be a deal, it'll be a steal, it'll be the bargain of the century. Its certainly less time than Mitsubishi's workshop manual states. It'll probably take you most of that just to take off the parts to get to it.

    +1

I always seem to find that people who quote such things as "oh it should only take an hour" etc etc. have never done the job themselves, and don't have a clue on what's involved.

Many people dont need a clue how long a fixed job should take, the service guide from the manufactures states the highest time the job should take with the correct skill and tools..
Now a lot of so called "Mechanics" don't have either the skill or tools required and should not be ripping of the public in Labour charges for basically incompetence.
A few extreme examples of hard to fit timing belts do exists, but on the whole the car is designed to have the belt replaced and around 1hr-2hrs should see 80% of vehicles on the road sufficient time to replace the belt.

Do you work in the industry ? Or is that just an opinion with no factual support ?

I would say that for most cars built in the last decade it is now opinion with no factual support.

No service time guides are very factual and produced by all manufactures, I thought someone in the "industry" would know that...

That's not the question I asked is it ? I asked if you worked in the industry.

As I don't believe you've actually seen the "service time guides" you are refering to. Or are you just looking at some bittorrent'd autodata dvds ?
