You're obviously lucky, your street can't be that narrow and/or parking mustn't be in such high demand. Unfortunately in many streets this isn't the case.

My yard is converted so I can park in it. :D

Parking here is in VERY high demand. But lives are more highly considered than cars in this area.
My first reply was witty and intellectual but I lost it so you got this one instead :D

There are only 311 Aston Martin DB5s left in this country, but there are 62 million people.

Some people have their priorities all messed up.

    {Edited to add - I just saw a thread entitled "No Carbs" and went weak at the knees thinking you were all discussing fuel injection systems}

I have just been wondering that all of you who said they would not pay, how many of you would demand money for repairs if a child had damage their car, just do the right thing and pay for the damage.

In all honesty I wouldn't expect the parents to pay, accidents happen that's life. It's not as though the child purposely scraped all down the side of his car.

We live in a cul de sac so I fully understand all about lack of space (although our cul de sac doesn't have pavements but you often get children playing on the road).
  • Are you saying if a child kicked a football through a window of yours and broke it that you would just shrug it off....

or if someone reversed their car over your pet dog by accident...

or someone skateboarding on the pavement knocked your buggy over and knocked your child out onto the pavement its ok.... it was an accident????

Extreme examples maybe but the point stands, it may well have been an accident but damage has been caused to someone's property which needs to be paid for.

No I wouldn't be claiming for the window as I said above accidents happen, we all need to accept that. I pay for insurance to cover such accidents. The skateboard one is extreme and totally OTT, when was the last time you ever heard of a skateboarder knocking a child out of a pushchair? I don't think I have ever heard of a situation like that. I can't see how the child could fallout if it was strapped in correctly too.

My 3 and 5 year old have broken numerous things accidently through their childhood so far and no doubt will cause more damage/break my things as they grow. Should I make a check list and bill them when they are older, or should I move and chalk it upto we're all humans and humans aren't perfect and sometimes have accidents?

Bill them. Think of it as a contribution to your pension fund.

Perhaps it's time to go Chinese, where folk are prevented from having more than one child, thus meaning no double buggies and less kids in the street on scooters?:D

    Just you wait! It'll come.
When there is no room left to move on this planet, when every spare inch of land is needed for food production because previous exporters need it themselves, you will find the words (a joke anyway.) "a Free Country" will cease to exist.
It's just a question of time. How long? Who knows.

They're already struggling for prison places following the riots, failure to cope with the resources available will sooner or later result in violent criminals being classed as 'of no further use' and they will be disposed of.
You WILL only be allowed to have one child, and only in a married relationship.

All of this is as inevitable as the planet running out of oil.

Jesus! Where are we allowed to park our cars?!

Same attitude as the people who park on pavements have. Who cares?

Quite a lot, many cars dent very easily. A out of control scooter would be more than enough to cause a sizeable dent.

Yeh.... they must fit them with smaller engines so they can't exceed 20mph!.... "Out of control scooter"?
What sort of image do you have in your head?

They weigh nothing, and usually have plastic handle protection on them.
Doubt they would cause a sizeable dent even if you threw it at the car.
Do you have any engineering / mechanical experience at all? Your post seems more emotional than knowledgable.

Well, thats the theory sorted out!
Now how about experience of car building and repair?

I've worked with many graduates who were crap at the practical level.
In fact, when I worked as a Production Engineer, I was made redundant during cut-backs, but managed to find a job in the Laboratory to keep me going (same employer.) They kept on the graduates they had instead.
Do you know, forever after that, I was being called off my job, to sort out this graduates difficulties, even once, when he called in an outside contractor, who also couldn't sort out the problem.
It took me 5 minutes to identify the problem, and action repairs.

The graduates also spent a fortune trying to make a piece of equipment work, that I told them before they bought it, that it would never work. It never did, despite the attempts of THREE graduates over time. About £25k wasted I think it was, and that's not counting man hours.

    So congratulations regarding your qualifications.
Wish I had some like that.
