Giffgaff price rises confirmed: 10p/min 6p/text
Their "community discussion" has resulted in giffgaff deciding to raise standard rates to 10p per minute and 6p per text.

So, after all the "listening to our members" giffgaff have settled on the same rates Asda went up to. Expect TescoLite, TalkMobile Essentials and FamilyMobile all to follow in due course.
[Update 01 September]:
Hi all,
Right, pfew, 135 pages later and we've had quite a bit of discussion. Today we sat down with the team and discussed the feedback we've seen so far and there has been rather a lot of it
We looked at all the suggestions everyone has made, and especially listened to your feedback, your worries and your fears. We have seen quite a lot of feedback on ASDA and your worries around going above that price point in regards to recommending the network and as as a general guideline.
Although we feel that our offer is much richer than theirs when we consider our goodybags, free giffgaff to giffgaff calls, free 0800 numbers, etc. etc. and the ability to switch between standard rates and goodybags, we have taken your feedback on board, and we feel we will meet your expectations if we set the price rise to go inline with that and set it at 10p for calls and 6p for texts.
We then looked at our business plans for 2011 and 2012 and we've run the prices through our models and if our current trading performance continues we don't think we'll need to review the prices again any time soon.
However going for this rate may mean we won't be able to do everything we wanted to do, but so be it.
We will look at all of the other recommendations everyone has made during this consultation on cost savings etc. and it may be that we will open up discussions on this in the future.
But for now, we think that with your feedback the price point of 10p for calls and 6p for texts should suit everyone.
Please let me know your thoughts and if nothing crazy happens we will make the final announcement this Tuesday.
Cheers,
Vincent

Not a giff gaff user myself, but doesn't everybody use their goodybags?
If they do, and that is where the real benefits are particularly with the data, keep an eye out for reduced minutes there.0 -

I too don't understand why there is such a fuss about this. Companies need to make a profit in order to grow and there are, as stated, other benefits than the basic talk and text prices.0 -

Not for Data and 0800 numbers it isn't. Plus iCard to icard calls are limited to ten minutes.
So if you have a basic phone and only make occasional short calls, it looks ok. No MMS, so you'll have to rely on Data usage to send photos or the like.
It's main USP though, are the low cost International calls.
But this thread is about Giffgaff.
Giffgaff is for people who actually want to use their mobile telephones.0 -

Giffgaff is an telefonica subsidiary running on o2.0 -
Grrr, I only just moved over from asda. Should have gone with talktalk essentials and kept the good vodafone signal.
Slightly miffed at giff gaff anyway as I thought I would get itemised billing but it turns out all the web based account stuff does not do that? Not sure why I had to give them all my details then... Partly my fault for assuming.
Running down my ten pounds of credit will now take me two months or so. You'd think legally the higher prices shouldn't apply to existing credit but they seem do. Bleah.0 -

Or the £10 goody bag will get you unlimited internet. - Don't forget to check the referrers board for £5 free credit when you join & top up by £10 if you use a link.
Don't mind the increase as most of my calls are to my children who are also on Giffgaff so calls are free.Truth always poses doubts & questions. Only lies are 100% believable, because they don't need to justify reality. - Carlos Ruiz Zafon, The Labyrinth of the Spirits0
