How much do you pay for a hair cut?

Hi,
I live in a very rural area and we have small 'hairdressers' rather than city style salons.
I have quite long hair and don't have anyone local who I trust to cut it. Last time I had a trim, the hairdresser just snipped along the bottom, never even sectioned it off and it's never sat right since.
So, after several recommendations, I will be going to a salon in a posh town about 10 miles away, hoping to go short although I might just get a good tidy up first to build up my confidence!
I've always paid less than £10 for a hair cut - dry cut, trim along the bottom only and out in 10 minutes:eek:.
I will be having a full wet cut, products and blow dry at the posh salon and don't think I'll have much change from £50 according to some folk (not very MSE but it has to be done).
So, how much do you spend on your hair and how often do you spent that?

In a basic salon near me it's £30 for a cut and blow dry. I try and go every 3 months. I hate paying it though, my hair isn't styled as such even though it has length, its literally a trim off the bottom and a dry. My hair is naturally poker straight so even that isn't hard. I'm normally in and out in 30 minutes. I wish I could make £1 a minute. The frontier is never somewhere else. And no stockades can keep the midnight out.0

The list price where I go is £50, but they text discount codes through every few months and as I only go every 6 months (have long hair and don't use any heat on it so it doesn't really have split ends or anything) I usually wait until I get a £15 discount code and only pay £35. It is worth it as they do the layers well and as they know not to expect to see me very often he shapes it to make it last.0

I also live in a rural area on the borders of two counties and both nearest town (6 and 10 miles) have colleges with training hair salons. They only let 3rd/4th years colour, I have a base colour, hilights, trim and blow dry which costs £30 every 10/12 weeks. In between times the 1st/2nd years do blow drys which are £7, if it's a trim and blow dry 2nd/3rd years are £10. They take longer than a professional salon are supervised 100% of the time, and the students are chatty and great fun.
Never come away disappointed yet, and would highly recommend a college (I have no connection with any of them or any students) if you want/have time to while away a relaxed couple of hours

The woman that cuts my hair is a sort of friend of the family, she's semi retired but still does a bit of mobile work and people who know here can phone and go to her house, i normally give her £4 for a quick cut.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

£17.50 for a washed (shampoo & conditioner) cut every 2 months. Would love to go less often but hair is too thick and wavy for less frequent. Have a friend who gets hers done once a year for less than a tenner.

I get mine done as a hair model for free (but I tip if the cut went OK). Rarely do I pay for a cut (ie if I really need one and there are none free I can find) and if I do its normally £5-£10 again as a hair model.0

mine is about £8... dry cut which they will spray with water if need be!
this is mainly because I absolutely cannot stand the false conversation you get with most hairdressers... so the least time I have to be in there, the better!!!0 -
I have a wet cut once or twice a year and it's £20 at a salon in town.
I have long wavy hair and grew it a few years ago so didn't have it cut for almost two years.
I also never blow dry my hair as it dries it out so a wet cut is fine for me.
I think if I had to pay £50 I would seriously be looking for a mobile hairdresser.0 -
I don't think its so much about the salon as the actual stylist. I have curly hair, so there isn't a great deal of things that can be done with it and I always find that they cut my hair too short, or leave it too long, so my regular stylist knows how I like it.
I live in greater London and I always go to the same stylist. Last time I went, I washed my hair beforehand (because I have a young son and didn't want him running riot for too too long) - in the end, it cost me £9 (because I leave it to dry naturally). I don't do these things to save money, but it does actually keep the cost down.0
