We picked up our keys today at 3pm, was very excited.
Entered the house and was suddenly not excited! It was so mucky! Can't believe the way they left it. Took all the door handles with them, replaced them with ones that didn't even fit!
Took the patio chairs that I had specifically asked to b includes in the offer and wrecked the table which again was a condition of the offer!
Been cleaning since 3pm and I can now finally see the house I fell in love with 3 months ago

Someone I know found the seller had taken to towel rack from the bathroom's wall. Some people are just petty. Or have strange fetishisms.Took the patio chairs that I had specifically asked to b includes in the offer and wrecked the table which again was a condition of the offer!
This should have been communicated to your solicitor to be included in the contract I guess.
Anyway, that's a small thing now as you've got the house. Congratulations.0 -
It was in the contract! But yes it's a small thing so trying to see past it.
I finally own a house!

Congraulations on your new house!
I was in a supermarket a few months ago, and the couple in front of me had a trolley full of various detergents, cloths, mop and bucket, and other cleaning products. I overheard them talking to the cashier and they had apparently just got the keys to their new house that morning.
My mum moved house once, and it wasn't until it started to get dark, they realised there wasn't a single light bulb anywhere upstairs!0 -
Sounds like a messy house is common then!! At least it's not just me! I was organises enough to take a box full of cleaning things with me though0

Congratulations, kiki*
I don't understand the concept of vendors changing fixtures and fittings for inferior ones before moving out. I found it rather exhausting moving boxes and furniture from one home to another and never given removing said items a second thought. What rotters!
At least by giving the place a damn good clean you can make steps of removing traces of the previous owner.
Congratulations to you too daisyegg.Generation Rent0 -
If you really want to make them worry, take photos of the damaged table etc and get on the blower to your solicitor saying they have breached the specific terms of the contract by not handing over the specified items at all and/or not in the condition they were at exchange.
On the other hand, I suspect you might just want to concentrate on getting your new house done how you want and put it down to experience.
I know which one I'd do.0
