  • Plasma has a far higher contrast ratio.

    My Pannasonic performs very well.

Getting it set up properly will probably benefit you more than which tpye you got for tbh.

We went for plasma, simply because it is 600Hz rather than 50/100 Hz. We watched titles moving up the screen on LCD and they juddered, but are smooth as anything on our plasma.

Sure that isn't just because on the Plasma it had a 'motion enhancer' and your LCD didn't? There's no reason the same content should look much different above around 120hz - your eyes wouldn't notice the difference and the detail in each frame of video simply isn't there.

To OP: Plasma is (generally) better quality than LCD because of the contrast ratio. That being said, it's not such a significant difference that it's worth paying any more for a Plasma over an LCD - both will produce good images if you tune them right and turn off motion smoothing, colour 'enhancers' etc. - just spend a couple minutes turning all that rubbish off and setting the brightness and contrast right for your room and LCD will look just fine.

Yep - with dynamic brightness (?) turned on! Wonderful picture even with full sunlight blasting onto it!

"Wonderful picture even with full sunlight blasting onto it!" - were you wearing sunglasses ?
Plasma tv's have very reflective screens , no go for me.

    Yes. Works fine for me.
  • I chose LCD purely because i'm a tight wad, and prefered an energy consumption of 180W (LCD) compared to 425W (PLASMA).

Lets face it, whatever you watch it on it, the type of TV ain't going to change or better the quality of the programming!.

Doesn't it depend on size too?

Last time I looked (12 months) I thought LCDs stopped at 40" and Plasma started?
