Booked car via CarHire 3000 for Spain in August and on booking, told that car hire co. was Goldcar... understood fuel policy - full on pick up, empty on return with fuel charges being paid on collection of car. Totally happy with this and have used Goldcar before. But wasn't prepared for extortionate charges this time round - £112 (pounds, not euros) for a tank of fuel, which equates to 50% surcharge on local rates. Worked out that if had gone with a co. that had a full / full or empty / empty policy, would have cost me £35 in fuel.
CarHire3000 do tell you local charges payable... they don't tell you that you will be shafted when you get there. Raised complaint with Car Hire 3000 (wasn't looking for compensation - just asked them to be aware of level of local charges) - they responded trying to justify the level of charges.
Will avoid both Car Hire 3000 and Goldcar in future.0 -
Carhire3000 are consistently the cheapest and in theory you should have no problems with them. The fun begins when you are in America and start dealing with the rental company. CH3 tend to use Dollar who are the worst sharks in the business. Although CH3 will assure you that everything is prepaid (unless you buy extras locally such as sat nav etc), Dollar will try and get more out of you. In particular, they like you to pay for their breakdown cover! Mental. And, if you politely refuse all the add-ons, they will almost certainly sting you for some or other invented taxes. You will get a refund from CH3 eventually if you kick up. Just be prepared for the rental company to nickel and dime you - they are bandits.0
