Sounds like you've thought it all through well, OP.

Best of luck with exchange. Are there many in the chain?
  • Thanks Jimmy; we're trying to strike that balance between not being over reactive and paranoid first time buyers, but also not being blase about something that could be quite serious.

Short chain, two houses (we're lucky, this could have been so much worse!)

  • Good luck. I've been following this today, and some comments went right off track!

Glad you've got it sorted and hope everything works out
  • Thanks gnasher :)

Well, at the same time I was reading the email to tell me that the money and contracts were ready to go but our vendor's solicitor was nowhere to be seen, my Mum calls to tell me that my Dad's Mum has cancer and has a few months left (this is to go along with the diagnosis of Motor Neurone Disease that my Dad got a couple of weeks ago.)

I've just made a spectacular mess of the chicken pie for dinner so I think OH and I are going to now get drunk and watch bad movies this eve.

We can't guarantee getting our notice in on time with the letting agent and we desperately want out of this flat so we've decided to throw caution to the wind and hand our notice in tomorrow. If (God forbid) it all goes ***s up we can stay with my parents and put our stuff into storage. Mum could use the help looking after Dad and to be honest it'll work out cheaper than another month's rent.

Night for now, normal service will resume monday

  • Every emotion is multiplied by about 1000 at the moment. The most stressful thing in life is buying a new house!

Get drunk with OH and I'll have a drink for you - infact, invite the local students around for a party!
  • Good plan. Although these are posh students round here, I think they'd turn their noses up at us!

  • Someone rammed into the back of OH's car this morning while it was stationary. He's OK.

Wondering what life has planned next today! According to the Estate Agent, exchange WILL happen today! I'm going to rely on the power of positive thinking........

While I wouldn't wish to be alarmist, don't share any feelings of 'wellness' with the other party, just in case. ;)

People in my family have had this experience and also felt 'fine' immediately afterwards but, unfortunately, this was not the case. One is still receiving acupuncture/physio at the other driver's expense; well it will be, eventually. :(

Chances are, everything will be fine, even if there's a bit of stiffness tomorrow. I hope so. :)

And regardless, you will probably soon receive estimates of how much you are 'entitled to,' by phone and mobile, from firms you've never heard of!!! 'Tis the way these things go.
  • Thanks Davesnave.

He feels OK, but he's going to the doctor for a check-up in the morning. Definitely not sharing anything with the other party unless it's bad.

On a more positive note, solicitor just rang to say that the other party is ready to exchange, do we want to exchange on X property at X price on X day etc etc. So waiting for the call back to say that it's all done.

    She says......

  • We didn't exchange - the house at the top of the chain is being sold because the owner died. Apparently confirmation from a relative that helped them buy it was needed to say that they were happy for it to be sold and that still hasn't been sent to our vendor's solicitor. Turns out exchange should never have been authorised.

The plan is still to complete by Friday, I don't think it's going to happen. Even if this last thing is sorted out there'll be something else I'm sure.
