Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Friday 2nd September 2011. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Good Morning x

Thank you for posting the prayer. I wish I had found it when I was a midwife as it encapsulates my ethos and i can truly say I tried my hardest. My thoughts are with all those who are being cared for or who are carers.

Ok so why am I awake at this hour? Well DD rolled in at 3.30am but she seemed to have had a good time:T:T:T The house had been locked up by DS1 coming home from work at 11.30pm and the dogs were next to useless as she tried to shin over the garden gate:eek::eek::eek: In the dogs defence I suppose they knew it was her as they generally react very strongly to strangers coming near the house. Anyway, I positively encouraged her to go out though so cant blame her and have to say it made me happy to see that she had a good time. I am very worried about her at the moment and had to practically force her to go out with her friends last night.

So cuppa tea and then hopefully back to bed. Hugs my OS friends and hope you sleep/slept well xx
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

I hope you managed to get some more sleep, I've been awake since 3:30 but decided to stay in bed for a while.
Todays plans include doing everything I didn't get done yesterday as I had some visitors.
This is the last day on my holiday & it's back to work full time on Monday.
I hope everyone has a good day.
    Hugs Hester

    Morning My lovelies!

OH is up and gone to work, I am just sorting out my hair, pup is staying at home today - he looks exhuasted so don't think he will mind. Work has been very quiet so will get the 8:45 train so he's not alone too long - BIL is popping in later too.

I bought OH a lunchbox the other day, he's so pleased with it I don't think he'll want to buy anymore lunches! I need to sort my lunch out, I'm drinking with my sister tonight, so needs to be something of stomach lining substance! Even going to have some porridge shortly.

Not much OS going on today as not sure how long i'll be at home later. OH needs to fend for himself for dinner, he's got the option of Gammon or Burgers.

    xxxx

    Hope everyone is well today,

    Morning folks :)
Yesterday I dug up some tatties and a savoy cabbage from the garden, then part cooked and froze the cabbage, cooked and mashed the tatties plus chipped some, part cooked, then froze the lot. :)
Doing some more today, was going to dig up the parsnips, some onions etc and do those too but it's tiddling down out there today so will stay indoors.
Will also be baking...muffins, scones, rolls, and having a go at freezing those, never done that before.
And will be making corned beef hash as an OS dinner.
The fire will go on this evening....it's cold today but we can bear that with wrapping up and doing housework etc, but come evening when you have to site down and rest, it gets awful chilly here, so will put the fire on and burn some scrap wood with bits of coal. Last night we used the paraffin lamps to save electricity so will do the same again tonight. They give a lovely glow, much softer and warmer than electric light. :)
Hope everyone has a good day today x

    Morning all,
Had a busy day y/day. 1 hr drive to DD1's to paint the doors, had a call from DD2 to say that her car had broken down on the way to Butlins, Minehead, she was taking DGD2 there for a treat, thanks to the bank of Mum (me) Had a 2 hr drive from Bath to Brigewater then a 1hr 30mn drive to drop her back home, by then it was too late to go back to DD1's to finish painting so popped to Morries to get 1/2 price beef but they had sold out. Got some ys mince so made a huge chilli, also a ys duck, I took the breasts off (dinner today) put the rest in the oven. Removed all meat for a chinese duck meals, l boiled the carcass and giblets so now have lovely stock. I'll make some Pate from the liver. No painting today as I have my Drs app at 9 then I'll have DGD as DD2 has a midwife app, oh ! just thought, I'll have to take her as she doesn't have a car...... more taxi duties. Lawn needs mowing and some weeding to do and loads of ironing.

(((((((( Hugs ))))))))) to all in need especially RR and DDad x

    Morning everyone

Cloudy but sun trying to break through here this morning. DH up and off to work at stupid early o'clock this morning. Washing ready to go out.

Dinner last night was spag bol, and HM bread, told DS2 that he would have to try it as I wasn't going to make another different meal for him (he loves lasagne but says his doesn't like spag bol but had never even tried it when I'd made it!, think it's more like it's a bit fiddly to eat!!) anyway he ate it - he didn't clear his plate but ate enough. Remembered to get chicken breasts out to defrost so dinner tonight will be chicken curry, rice, naans, poppadums etc. Will be going to the bank shortly, then food shopping, once I've got those bits done will be wanting to get some baking/cooking for the lunchboxes on the go. I'll make a victoria sponge, choc brownies, twinks hobnobs, I might make fruit scones too for a change.

Need to get myself into gear.

Not much else to say really, keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

    Morning All,

Beethebee your life sounds exactly like mine at the moment.

A day cleaning and organising with a bit of ironing thrown in today as we are off to the lakes for the weekend later this afternoon.

Looking after DGS this morning as my daughter has her interview at 11.30. Can we have some positive vibes please:j

When her ex dropped DGS off last night he brought a bag with the last of her things, he must have scoured the house, even bringing an old mug with a broken handle. He is obviously trying to remove any trace of her, but she has accepted its over and is trying to look positively towards the future, and this new job would really help.

So no cooking for the next couple of days and DD, DGS and middle DS will be fending for themselves. Must say I really need the break.

Probably wont post this wkend so hope everyone has a great weekend.
    Love J x

    Morning all,

First of all hugs to Butterfly, must be a hard day for you xxxx

Lou, how are you doing this morning ?? let us know how you and yours are getting on xx

Meant to be a nice day here today, and I have no washing, never mind will have a day off from it, just writting this, and will then go and make dads cakes, have had the bread and fruit soaking all night for a bread pudd, so need to finish that and make some cup cakes, I need to put them in something easy to open for him, he cant manage tins or tupperware any more, I wonder if tinfoil might be best ?

Need to have a hoover and tidy through this morning, and then head off to town with dd, we need to get her some stationary and some shoes, also need to stop at the station and get her train ticket for next week, up to now the council have paid travel for all kids going onto a college course, but they have stopped it this year :(, which means I have to pay.

Will go and see dad on the way back from town, chilli and rice for dinner, must get dd's out of the freezer, I make a big batch of quorn chilli and freeze in portions, makes life easier.

    Have good days all xx

    morning all!

didn't read or post yesterday so hope everyone is well.

I went to the funeral of a lady I used to babysit for - her son is now married and nursing in our local hospital, he's also a qualified midwife. We also used to play darts together. She was only 64 and had a heart attack. She used to be a Wren and her husband was in the navy so she had a naval(sp?) escort at church. Just makes you realise how short life can be doesn't it.

OS - stewed the apples and made a nice crumble yesterday.:T
Also made 2 curries - one quorn and one chicken, we ate some and the rest is going in the freezer.

Need to go through the freezers and meal plan today before grocery shopping this afternoon.

Have had a tidy through and mopped the kitchen and bathroom floors.

WM is on its second load - lots to do as I changed the beds yesterday.

    NPM - hope you're feeling better x

(((hugs))) to Lou and all who need them x x

    take care all x
    Do what you love :happyhear
