    Thanks for that, peoploids!

As ever, there never seems to be a single ISP that really stands out from the crowd. I'm tending to steer towards the Bundle 3 Virgin package 'cos I'm not a heavy user and it really does represent excellent value for £9.99.

Now that 1899 have upped their charges considerably, I can also take advantage of the free phone calls eves & weekends as well... ;)
I'm NOT political so DON'T correct me!
  • As everyone else has said, STAY AWAY, I was with Tiscali but had loads of problems with the service so decided to cancel on 30th nov 06, but knowing ipast problems i rang 1wk later to check it had been processed, and guess what, it hadnt, they had managed to cancel my email access but nothing else, they finally got round to removing the markers from the line early jan, when i rang to find out where my final bill was they said "we sent it to you" I said "did you happen to email it to me through the tiscali email adress?", "yes of course we did", "and the fact that i have cancelled my account and have no access to my email wasn't a problem?" "ah, yes i can see that may be a problem" YOU DONT SAY!!! then i found out that they had cancelled the bband but not the call packages, grrrrrrr. Think it has all been sorted, just waiting for Virgin to connect us, so glad to be away from them.

(still waiting for final bill, they will then get a bill back charging them for my time that i have wasted chasing them around, hahaha will let you know if they pay up)
  • Happy with Tiscali cheap and is realiable, customer service sucks though, but have been with tiscali for five years and no intention of moving.
Show me an isp with no negatives and ill show you a liar.

A fool and their money are easily parted.

The Tiscali service itself is pretty good - I very rarely have any speed issues, and the connection is never down.

However, on the few occasions I have had to contact Technical Support, I have found them to be so utterly incompetent that I have been rendered (unusually) speechless.

I'm staying with them for the moment as the service is cheap and reliable. If I have any problems in future I will just cancel my subscription, as I really can't face speaking to Tiscali Technical Support ever again.

God help you if you ever want to leave Tiscali then. As you say the Tecnical Support is useless. If you ever want to leave you will require a MAC code which they will do everything to get out of giving you. When/if you finally do get it they will probably issue with an out of date one (they only last for 30 days) so you are stuck for even longer with them. I had to write to their head of cancellations & their MD to get my disconnection sorted.

If you just cancel your subcription your line still remains active with them so you can't get a broadband service from any other provider until you manage to get Tiscali to release your line, which I believe is a nightmare.

Just as well then as they won't let you!

Stay well away from tiscali. I had no broadband between 5th and 26th of jan. No warnings. When I phoned their useless customer service they told me to reinstall the modem and all manor of things. Then after the 5th phone call and I have lost count of the amount of emails I find that there was no broadband on the line. Still no one has explained why they were telling me what to do to get internet access when there wasn`t any broadband on the line. And they have had the cheek to send me an email telling me when my next payment will come out of the bank. Now waiting for a response from their billing support section. I am loathe to make another phone call because they just make you feel like getting on a plane and punching them.
