Shall I go with Tiscali?

Hi,
I've just moved into a flat with my girlfriend and we are looking at getting broadband.
We were going to use TalkTalk and get the free calls package but discovered our postcode (Bournemouth) does not get the free internet yet. Also we read some very bad reviews on TalkTalk and connections times.
We are now thinking of going with Tiscali with their free weekend calls?
What is the general opinion of Tiscali? Whats their connection time like?
Thanks for you help in advance,
Ben

Stay well away from Tiscali. Most complained about isp:

In my experience paying a bit more for broadband goes along way. Don't just go for the cheapest with the most free stuff ie modem etc. Stay away from big companies like Orange, Talk Talk, Tiscali etc. Very poor customer service. Look at the web site above & also http://www.thinkbroadband.com/ (formerly adslguide.org.uk). They have an ISP comparison section.
If you are thinking of going with an ISP check out their own forums & see how many people are complaining. Tiscali's forum is a real eye opener.0 -
I am with Plusnet currently and have to say they have improved somewhat in the past 6 months. I would recommend them or Madasafish (Martins personal recommendation amongst others) Do not be tied to one supplier for all especially Tiscali. Follow my link below for Home phone that Heinz has so kindly put together.
hope its not too late!!:jCurrently 4 me its Rogers Contract cell phone, REBTEL.COM is the best mobile making and receiving calls to/from UK and Canada:beer:0 -
Hi,
Thanks - think I'm going to go with Madasafish!
Any comments on these guys?0 -
I have found Tiscali are good.
When I had speed problem, Indian Tech support sorted it.
You're always more likely to hear of complaints than people who are ok.
Bigger companies will always have lot more complaints, so watch how you interpret stats.

The Tiscali service itself is pretty good - I very rarely have any speed issues, and the connection is never down.
However, on the few occasions I have had to contact Technical Support, I have found them to be so utterly incompetent that I have been rendered (unusually) speechless.
I'm staying with them for the moment as the service is cheap and reliable. If I have any problems in future I will just cancel my subscription, as I really can't face speaking to Tiscali Technical Support ever again.0 -

To be honest I would stay away from tiscali. The other are right in saying the connection speed is fairly stable, however I have had many problems with the company before deciding to change isp:
- Price drop in package, this is going a couple of years back when they were charging about £24/month, they dropped the prices to £17(for same speed package). Ring to ask when I was still be charged £24 (3 months after the price drop), said offer was only offered to new customers. This was false information as I rang up again and the guy said I had to change it on my member area account. This is what I dont understand, why should a customer have to change the price of thier monthly package manually? It shoud happen automatically. I thought this would be a one off, so i let it drop, but I was wrong.........
- Overcharging, I realised that they had overcharing me by £2 each month for the past 5 months. Rang billing enquires, they put a request to have me refunded. Never happened!! So I complained a couple more times, they finially agreed as goodwill they would decrease the price of my package to £9.99. This sounded odd, so I asked if I would be getting the same speed (2Mbps), they assured me that I would.
Well they lied, I was put down to 512mb. So I had enough and tried toleave, which caused even more problems. They said they'd get me a MAC, it didnt happen for over 3 weeks. Rang up to see what was happening, they said they couldnt produce one for me - as far as I know, they should be able to produce me a MAC if they are able to process new orders for accounts as they go through the same system. So my only option was to cancel, which meant I had to pay them another month.
Sorry for the long post it just makes me so  even just writing about them and believe me I'm not an angry person!0
