Time to get it sorted

  • I've edited my signature to add the money in that I've borrowed and because I've only been making token payments on my credit card due to wage mishaps I had a letter through the other day with my correct figure on there..

It was a bit of a shock but I think it's given me the shock I need to get myself sorted and start taking control. I admit even after posting on here I think I still had my head partly buried in the sand and now I realise that isn't going to make anything better.

Tomorrow I'm going to phone all the companies I owe money to, explain the situation and tell them how much I can afford to pay each month. If they won't agree to it then I'll be going to citizens advice and going from there.

I'm finally starting to realise that my dream of being debt free asap isn't going to work if I don't sort the situation out. I have no money to spend until Friday so my spending diary will start properly from then. I have people who will pay me to iron for them so that's going to add some money to the budget and be a great help. Hopefully then through word of mouth I'll get a bit more.

I don't want to run myself into the ground health wise while being a DFW but I do need to take control and sort it out. Hopefully by admitting this to myself I'll be able to sleep better at night because that's one thing thats been causing me issues. I wake up at night wondering where the money for my petrol is coming from because without my car I can't get to work. I put £20 in a week but I'm going to try putting £15 in the first week and see how far that gets me. If I can manage £15 a week instead of £20 then that's another £20 to go towards my debts. February will be my month without treats while I get everything sorted and reduce my signature by at least £400 would be a great help. Although I don't quite see it happening.

My Feb budget includes my Car Tax and I get my bonus 2 weeks after payday but I don't quite know what to budget when it comes to my MOT because I think my car will fail and I don't know how much it's going to cost. Oh well I suppose I will have to cross that bridge when I get to it. I suppose I have a lesson there in the fact that I need to put money away each month for car emergencies etc.

and to inprove it more, to make full payment on your CC every month

im sure someone willl correct me if im wrong

  • Ok I did it.

I bit the bullet and looked at my credit file. It's actually not as bad as I thought it would be. There are a couple of red things on there. One I didn't realise was still active so when my tax mot etc is due out the way I will phone the company and get that sorted.

I feel better for doing it now because it's not as scary looking as I thought!

  • im going to try and clear a cc off and just use it to put fuel in my car that id usually pay using my debit card

this way il pay that cc off in full each month as il use the money set a side for fuel , so paying this in full each month, will show the creditors that i dont need to use my card to the limit ect

    hugs (()) you can do it¬ :j

  • I have my little plan for tomorrow before work. I need to phone companies and say look this is the situation can I pay you £xx each month and go from there. That way regular debt payments and then clearing that one thing off will hopefully boost it up a bit more. The more I pay and the further I boost etc the better I will feel!

That's a good idea but follow up each phonecall with a letter (special delivery - not an email and keep a copy). That way, they can't turn around to you later and say that the phonecall never happened.

You know, we all have moments of thinking that we are going around in circles. You will get there. Who cares if it takes you a wee bit longer - the end is and will always be in sight.
  • Glad to see you getting on top of it Squidge - I must admit it was worrying me that since you first posted in September you've increased your debt by £3,015!

    I'm sure you'll sort it :)

  • I'll get there eventually. I just think it will take me longer than i planned. I will however be debt free by the time i'm 30

  • The way I manage it 'in my head' is to solely ensure that each month my debt doesn't increase at all.

From the moment I get paid I budget exactly where every pound is going, so I know what I have available.

Anything extra gets thrown at the debt - it's simple really :)
